This role focuses on long-term planning, asset optimization, compliance, and supporting the company's operational and strategic objectives.Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 7700 Hopcott Road, Delta.What you'll do
  • Develops and executes vessel maintenance programs to ensure they are in compliance with company policy.
  • Manages docking planning, repair and maintenance planning for vessels and company assets
  • Manages and develop scheduled maintenance activities for all assets.
  • Composing, and managing approved annual maintenance budgets.
  • Plans and executing capital projects to implement improvements to assets.
  • Budgeting, planning, and executing major overhauls, docking and out of service repairs.
  • Manages performance, operating processes, and maintenance trend monitoring to investigate opportunities for optimization and budget efficiencies.
  • Develops and maintaining professional relationships with key equipment suppliers and service providers.
  • Accountable for asset emergencies and breakdowns.
  • Provides operational and critical updates to internal team and ensure all members of the Company are kept up to date on engineering matters.
  • Proposes, develops, and implements training regimes as required to operate assets safely and efficiently.
  • Ensures that Company assets are in compliance with all statutory, classification and legal requirements.
  • Ensures that all machinery and equipment failures are investigated to determine the root-cause of the failure. Provide recommendations to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
  • Consults with internal and external specialists when and as required to determine the cause of and remedy for unusual events involving company assets.
  • Provides technical assistance for capital projects as required.
  • Develops and implement class approved maintenance program as well as policy and procedure manuals for new Company assets.
  • Keeps current with latest technologies, alternative fuels, and operational methodologies.
  • Represents the Company at industry conferences as required when approved to do so.
  • Conducts interviews and provide recommendations for new hires.
  • Provides technical guidance to vessel personnel and facility operators.
  • Ensures familiarity with Company policies and all applicable legislation and statutory requirements in the areas of employment and workplace protections, including Canada Labour Code, Human Rights Legislation, etc.
  • Ensures both short and long-term planning for Seapsan Energy assets is in place.
  • Keeps abreast of trends and legislative changes that may have an impact on Company assets and operations. Takes proactive measures to avoid potential problems and burdens.
  • Provides technical insight as required to contribute to the strategic development of the Company.
What you'll bring
  • A post-secondary degree in Engineering, Technology or related disciplines; or successful completion of an apprenticeship program which qualifies the individual as a Power Engineer, Stationary Engineer or Marine Engineer.
  • Marine Certificate of Competency due to the unique nature of marine mechanics, equipment and machinery.
  • A minimum of 6-8 years supervisory experience within a mechanical repair environment where the individual has demonstrated a high level of technical competence and a track record of success through progressively senior positions.
  • Formal supervisory/management training and/or related courses is desirable.
  • Strong project and program management abilities.
  • A thorough working/practical knowledge of vessel hull, machinery and equipment repair.
  • Exceptional abilities to diagnose, troubleshoot and exercise sound judgement under time pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong understanding of all applicable Legislations, Acts and Regulations for marine operations.
  • Ability to conduct business in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical specifications and drawings.
  • Demonstrated abilities to lead, motivate and gain respect and trust from both internal and external parties.
  • Passionate and takes pride in one's profession. Demonstrated abilities to mentor, train and transfer knowledge to other staff members.

The estimated salary for this position is $126,000 - $154,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity.
