Job Category: TransportationDegree Level: Technical DiplomaJob Description:The Marine, Superintendent is responsible for the strategic oversight of marine operations and ensuring full compliance with Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) standards for Seaspan Energy's LNG bunkering vessel(s). This role focuses on overseeing the safe and efficient operation of the vessels in accordance with all applicable regulations, industry best practices, and company policies.Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 7700 Hopcott Road.What you'll do
  • Provide leadership and guidance for Masters, Deck Officers and crew onboard the vessels.
  • First point of contact for all vessel marine operations, navigation and HSEQ related matters.
  • Accountable for marine operations and navigation related incident and emergencies with the expectation of being available 24/7 to respond to emergency matters and travel to SEL vessels when required.
  • Appointed Designated Person Ashore (DPA) for the vessels.
  • Provide onboard/remote ship-to-ship (STS) LNG transfer operation support.
  • Develop and manage the Joint Plan of Operations (JPO) package development and facilitation of JPO meetings with receiving vessels.
  • Catalogue and manage lessons learned and coordinate lessons learned meetings internally and externally.
  • Ensure compliance with international regulations including IMO, SOLAS, ISPS, and OCIMF.
  • Vessel certificate management including Statutory and Class certificates on a dedicated platform.
  • Manage compliance requirements for external stakeholders, including maintaining up-to-date documentation on the Q88 platform and overseeing reporting and performance tracking on RightShip and OCIMF platforms.
  • Conduct scheduled and unscheduled internal audits to ensure vessels are always in a state of compliance.
  • Directly responsible for ensuring vessel readiness for both mandatory and voluntary audits, including coordinating, arranging, and overseeing all audit activities including vetting.
  • Lead incident investigations, reporting, and tracking through dedicated platforms (e.g., Power BI), covering events such as near misses, lost time incidents (LTI), property damage, and pollution.
  • Support TSI with composing and management of approved technical OPEX budgets.
  • Audit crew competency and training programs, including vessel handling and simulator-based exercises, ensuring all personnel meet regulatory certification and performance standards.
  • Conduct onboard visits, drills and safety training regularly
  • Manage essential company operational documentation including SMS, ERP and checklists.
  • Ensures vessels remain in compliance with all statutory, classification and legal requirements
  • Ensures stringent root cause analysis is carried out for all marine and navigation related incidents. Provide detailed report and implement recommendations to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
  • Consults with internal and external specialists when and as required to determine the cause of and remedy for unusual events involving the vessels.
  • Develop and manage marine fleet policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with industry and regulatory standards.
  • Provides technical assistance for capital projects as required.
  • Keeps current with latest technologies, alternative fuels, and operational methodologies including legislative changes that can impact daily vessel operations.
  • Represents the company at industry conferences as required when approved to do so.
  • Audit vessel personnel and facility operators.
  • Ensures familiarity with company policies and all applicable legislation and statutory requirements in the areas of employment and workplace protections, including Canada Labour Code, Human Rights Legislation, etc.
  • Ensures both short and long-term planning for Seapsan Energy vessels is in place.
  • Keeps abreast of trends and legislative changes that may have an impact on company assets and operations. Takes proactive measures to avoid potential problems and burdens.
  • Promote a safety-first culture.
What you'll bring
  • Master Certification, or related disciplines; or a minimum of 6-8 years supervisory experience within marine and transportation industry.
  • Formal supervisory/management training and/or related courses is desirable.
  • Strong project and program management abilities.
  • A thorough working/practical knowledge of nautical matters with a focus on ship handling and pilotage of vessels.
  • Experience with LNG/LPG and LNG/LPG vessels highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong understanding of all applicable Legislations, Acts and Regulations for marine operations.
  • Ability to conduct business in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical specifications and drawings.
  • Demonstrated abilities to lead, motivate and gain respect and trust from both internal and external parties.
  • Passionate and takes pride in one's profession. Demonstrated abilities to mentor, train and transfer knowledge to other staff members.

The estimated salary for this position is $126,000 - $154,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity.
