Director of Philanthropy and CommunicationsL'Arche Greater VancouverVancouver, BCSummary of Role:The Director of Philanthropy and Communications is responsible for ensuring all activities related to fundraising and communications are effectively managed in accordance with the mission and vision of L'Arche, Canada Revenue Agency guidelines, and the Association of Fundraising Professionals' best practices, principles, and guidelines. The Director of Philanthropy and Communications' priority will be major gifts and legacy giving. The Director of Philanthropy and Communications also manages and supports a team of individuals who are responsible for data entry, annual giving, smaller grants, social media, and website content.Accountability:The Director of Philanthropy and Communications is accountable to the Community Leader/Executive Director of L'Arche Greater Vancouver and the L'Arche Foundation of Greater Vancouver Board of Directors.Key Competencies:
  • Alignment with and ability to articulate the mission of L'Arche.
  • Minimum five years of leadership in fundraising, ideally in faith-based contexts, community organizations and/or the disability sector which includes securing major gifts, legacy giving, special events, and annual giving.
  • Expertise in annual planning, team leadership, and financial oversight including budget development.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills for building relationships with donors, volunteers, and stakeholders. Has the ability to effectively articulate plans and proposals verbally and in writing.
  • Experience in database systems and reporting (ideally with Donorperfect), with strong organizational ability and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated integrity in managing sensitive information, maintaining high ethical standards, and exercising sound judgment.
  • Formal training in nonprofit management and CFRE designation are preferred.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a demonstrated ability to tailor messaging for different audiences and channels.
  • Experience in public speaking.
  • Experience in managing social media platforms, which includes content creation.
  • Adherence to the Association of Fundraising Professionals' Donor Bill of Rights.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
Computer Proficiency with the Following Software Programs
  • Fundraising software (Background in DonorPerfect considered an asset).
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Internet and Email.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesPhilanthropy:
  • Develop an annual Philanthropy Plan that reflects the organization's needs and fundraising goals, which includes initiating a Legacy program.
  • Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure that strategic plans, goals, and critical fundraising processes are carried out.
  • Build relationships with current and prospective major donors by developing and implementing comprehensive plans to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors.
  • Oversee and monitor the Annual Campaign activities that include grant writing, annual appeals, and stewardship events.
  • Develop or oversee the development of fundraising materials such as proposals, briefing notes, presentations, appeal letters, and other materials.
  • Oversee the administration of the donor mailing list(s) and database to ensure that the privacy and confidentiality of donor information are maintained.
  • Engage in face-to-face meetings and personalized donor-based activities. Lead and coordinate strategy and debrief meetings before and after donor meetings.
  • Represent L'Arche with the Board President and the Community Leader/Executive Director at the local business community.
  • Collaborate with and report to the Community Leader/ Executive Director and the L'Arche Foundation Board.
  • Conduct regular reviews to ensure that relationships advance and donor development activities are on track.
  • Coordinate stewardship activities, including recognition events, tours, and additions to the donor tree.
  • Review and adhere to the department's policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the L'Arche Greater Vancouver Leadership Team and other personnel as required.
  • Engage volunteers for special development projects/events.
Communications:
  • Collaborate with the Department Team to create a comprehensive communication plan that will build an awareness of 'Arche with current and prospective donors, local businesses, grantors, prospective employees, and the general public.
  • Oversee the management of L'Arche Greater Vancouver's website.
  • Supervise and evaluate internal communication messaging and methods.
  • Oversee the design, printing, and distribution of marketing and communication materials.
  • Provide leadership and participate in the creation of website and social media content.
Department Management
  • Develop an annual department budget that reflects the organization's annual needs and goals.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Human Resources, recruit, interview and hire department staff.
  • Manage and support the Philanthropy and Communications Team.
  • Prepare and provide monthly reports on progress, budgets, and expenditures to the Community Leader/Executive Director and Foundation Board
  • Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of L'Arche.
Specific Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years of fundraising and communications experience. Current member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.Authority: The Director of Philanthropy and Communications is authorized to fulfill all responsibilities outlined in the role description.EvaluationThe Director of Philanthropy and Communications is evaluated annually by the Executive Director and the President of the L'Arche Foundation of Greater Vancouver.BenefitsThe base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $110,000 per year, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes extended health coverage, matching RRSP contributions, generous vacation time, and the chance to work with genuinely nice people!Position type: Full-Time, Permanent and On-Site.Location: Vancouver, BC
