As their organization continues to scale, we are partnering with them on strengthening their accounting function with the hire of a new Assistant Controller.Reporting to the Corporate Controller, in this dynamic role, you will support the Corporate Controller in managing the company's accounting operations, financial reporting, and close processes. This role will have direct responsibility for end-to-end accounting execution, external audit coordination, and supporting acquisitions and integrations in a fast growing, PE backed environment.The successful candidate must show the ability to manage their team to ensure a smooth financial operations and timely close manner without escalations, strong judgement on technical issues, and to deliver strong financial reporting processes.Job Duties:Financial Close & Reporting
- Lead monthly close activities and ensure books are closed within 10 working days
- Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Ensure all material balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly
- Support internal and external financial reporting requirements
- Manage day to day audit execution and auditor requests
- Prepare audit schedules and support timely delivery
- Assist with financial statement preparation and disclosures
- Support tax compliance by coordinating with external providers
- Oversee core accounting functions (GL, AP, AR, payroll)
- Help build and mature a shared services accounting model
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and scalability
- Support ERP enhancements, transitions, or integrations
- Support post acquisition accounting integrations
- Assist with technical accounting assessments on new transactions
- Standardize accounting policies and processes across acquired entities
- Manage, mentor, and review work of accounting staff
- Help develop strong, repeatable processes that scale with growth
- CPA designation is a must
- 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience
- Public accounting background strongly preferred
- Strong financial reporting and month-end close experience
- Experience supporting audits and working with external auditors
- Exposure to PE-backed or leveraged environments preferred
- ERP experience or strong ability to learn new system
- Willingness and ability to travel within Canada and USA.
