The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) invites applicants for a full-time tenure track faculty position in Animal Welfare. Appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor level.Proposed Description:The successful applicant will join the Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Centre (SJDAWC) at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) and work closely with its director to meet the strategic goals of the Centre. These goals include advancing high-impact research and service on timely and relevant animal welfare issues and fostering sustainable engagement with industry and the community. The faculty member will also contribute to didactic and experiential learning experiences that advance critical thinking skills in veterinary and graduate students.The successful candidate will:
  • Develop an externally funded research program related to animal welfare, ideally with a focus on the connection between human well-being and animal welfare.
  • Train highly qualified personnel in the field of animal welfare.
  • Create coursework for graduate and veterinary students, including advanced topics in animal welfare.
  • Collaborate with the director of the SJDAWC to expand extra-curricular opportunities for veterinary students in animal welfare.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams within and outside the AVC to promote varied aspects of animal welfare research.
  • Develop sustainable and impactful connections with local industry and community organizations to address timely and multi-factorial animal welfare issues.
Qualifications:PhD in animal welfare or a related fieldThe salary range is commensurate with credentials and experience. Full-time, permanent faculty members receive a comprehensive fringe benefit package, with benefit details provided at the time of offer in accordance with the collective agreement. This appointment is subject to budgetary approval.Situated on the country's beautiful east coast, with easy access to beaches all around, the AVC has 280 DVM students and is the main veterinary referral center in Atlantic Canada with a busy companion animal caseload.
