- Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Gold’s safety standards, procedures, and safety systems.
- Under the guidance of other experienced engineers, lead the detailed design of future capital projects for site wide infrastructure, mechanical, electrical, and process systems.
- Prepare scopes of work and technical tender packages. Input to and progress the technical tender process and bid evaluations.
- Own and update key technical project documents such as mechanical equipment lists (MELs), load lists, line designation tables, instrument lists, general arrangement / layout drawings, etc.
- Use AFT Fathom software as a tool and develop hydraulic models to provide guidance on the design and operation of hydraulic / pumping systems.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, regulations, and professional practice guidelines.
- Manage engineering and design documentation produced by engineering firms and ensure that design and construction information is coordinated with all stakeholders.
- Take ownership of technical scopes of work by managing vendors, consultants, and contractors to deliver Issued for Construction (IFC) documentation.
- Review engineering/contractor deliverables for technical compliance, scope alignment, and quality.
- Assist with ensuring that construction is executed per the design intent and support the commissioning of systems through to their operational phase.
- Provide input to project managers on all aspects of project controls including earned value, costs, and schedule updates.
- Initiate, maintain and ensure safe keeping of accurate records of engineering documents, design reviews, project plans, workshops, and alignment meetings.
- Prepare regular progress reports, project status updates, and presentations for senior management and stakeholders.
- Assist with the production of engineering and construction work packages.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from a recognized university.
- Eligible to apply for a professional engineering designation (P.Eng.) once experience and competency requirements have been met.
- 2-5 years of discipline or project engineering/coordination experience preferred – responsibilities and compensation will depend on the candidate’s experience.
- Recent mining project experience would be a strong asset, but other major capital project experience in the region could be transferable.
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems typical at a mine site.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to be flexible and manage a variety of assignments and situations simultaneously.
- Self-motivated, resourceful, and flexible team player.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to work at a remote location on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation.
- Comfortable living and working in close quarters with team members.
- Ability to maintain high performance during 12-hour shifts.
- Capable of lifting/moving up to 50 lbs throughout shifts.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions.
