Your future starts here.PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:CPKC is seeking a highly skilled and certified Journeyman Carpenter to join our Engineering team. In this dynamic position, you will play a critical role in ensuring the structural integrity of the railroad by specializing in the construction, maintenance, and repair of bridges and buildings. Reporting to the Manager of Bridge Maintenance, you will contribute to the safety and operational efficiency of train movement across North America, delivering an exceptional service to our customers. As a valued member of our team, your expertise in carpentry will directly support CPKC's commitment to excellence in rail infrastructure and transportation.POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Analyze and interpret blueprints to ensure precise project implementation
- Complete interior and exterior finishes to improve spaces by performing drywall installation, painting and applying trim work
- Construct and pour concrete foundations, slabs and various structural forms
- Gather, organize and prepare construction materials, including lumber and other necessary supplies
- Skilled in handling manual and power tools, including measurement instruments, saws, hammers and woodworking machinery
- Operate rigging and scaffolding equipment to ensure safe and efficient work at elevated heights
- Assist in maintaining accurate records of equipment maintenance, timesheets and project documentation, ensuring proper care and usage
- Perform construction and repair tasks related to culverts, timber bridges, steel bridges and buildings
- Comply with safety protocols, operational guidelines and Transport Canada regulations within the railroad sector
- Adhere to safety guidelines in a high-risk, team-oriented work environment, prioritizing vigilance when working around heavy and moving equipment
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or general equivalency
- Valid driver's license
- Possess Real Seal Carpenter certification and/or at least six years in benchwork
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in using hand-powered tools; experience with heavy machinery operation is considered an asset
- Acquire and maintain a Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) certification at a minimum of Level "D"
