Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the Controller within the Property Management division of their business. Operating in a dynamic and entrepreneurial real estate environment, this role will be responsible for managing accounting activities across a portfolio of commercial and residential assets. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting leadership with financial reporting, and ensuring effective financial oversight of the portfolio. This position will oversee the accounting for approximately 20 commercial tenants and fewer than 100 residential tenants, including cash management, financial reporting, and reconciliation activities. Working closely with the Controller and Property Managers, the Senior Accountant will assist with budget preparation, variance analysis, and financial statement preparation for multiple entities. The role also involves managing month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate reporting, and maintaining strong relationships with external stakeholders such as bankers, auditors, and vendors. - Manage cash management and cash flow reporting for stakeholders
- Maintain financial records for a commercial and residential property portfolio
- Prepare financial statements for multiple entities and assets
- Lead and support month-end and year-end close processes
- Partner with Property Managers on budgeting and provide variance analysis
- Perform high-volume and complex reconciliations
- Manage accounting for multiple entities and intercompany transactions
- Liaise with bankers, auditors, and vendors to ensure accurate reporting and compliance
- Support the Controller with workflow management and financial processes
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff
- Minimum 5 years of full-cycle accounting experience
- Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) or post-secondary education in Accounting
- CPA designation or active pursuit considered an asset
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple sets of books end-to-end
- Experience with commercial or residential real estate portfolios is highly desirable
- Advanced Excel proficiency and strong financial systems adaptability
- Strong understanding of intercompany transactions and reporting
- Experience with property accounting or working within a multi-entity accounting environment
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Exceptional attention to detail and analytical ability
- Professional maturity and confidence supporting a Controller or senior finance leader
