The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and leading fisheries related tasks and deliverables. The successful candidate will join our team of freshwater fisheries and aquatic biologists who value teamwork and will help shape our fisheries practice in Alberta.Your Key ResponsibilitiesServe as the primary resource and contact for clients, with specific focus on oil, gas, and mining programsManage, plan and lead freshwater fisheries programs (fish, fish habitat and water quality)Experience with oil and gas development, including CER regulated pipeline projects is considered an assetStrong understanding of federal and provincial legislationExperience developing Offset Management PlansUnderstand recent and existing practices and techniques for sampling and analysis of fisheries, habitat and water data from streams, rivers, and lakesCoordinate and oversee field programsManage tasks and projects according to approved scopes of work and deliver quality reports on schedule and within budgetProvide senior review for a variety of reportsDevelop and maintain positive client and regulatory contactsProvide understanding of project goals and sound environmental project advise to clientsContribute to the professional development of junior environmental staff through training, technical direction, and mentorship.Contribute to proposals and other business development activitiesServe as interdisciplinary liaison within StantecEmbrace and promote Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all workTravel is required throughout Western Canada for projects, client liaison and business developmentYour Capabilities and CredentialsProven technical, communication, writing and organization skillsAbility to maintain flexibility, meet deadlines in a dynamic environment, and work independently with minimal supervisionExperience in developing field programs and methods to meet specific project objectivesExperience in leading field crews in execution of fish and fish habitat field programs, and leading staff in data management, data analysis and report preparationExperience in HSSE guidelines for all workExperience in construction monitoring and environmental management planningStrong project management and senior technical review skillsExperience in business development, working with and advising clients, and proposal writingAbility to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environmentExperience with mentoring and training environmental staffEducation and ExperienceA Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Fisheries is required, graduate degree preferred.Registration, or ability to register, with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists is required.Minimum of 10 years of experience as a fisheries biologist with consulting experience.Knowledge of current provincial and federal government regulatory requirements and regulatory authorities. (e.g., Canada Energy Regulator, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, etc.).Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time.Stantec is proud to offer a hybrid work environment and the opportunity to work from one of our Alberta offices and your home office may be considered.
