The position is in the Emergency Department at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital (DECRH), with the possibility of travel to other locations that are under the DECRH Emergency Department. The DECRH serves a population of approximately 166,000. The DECRH ED averages 49,000 patient visits a year encompassing all CTAS Levels and has a 24-hour in-house ED Physician coverage.The Physician Assistant (PA) will be assigned to a Primary Supervising physician and will work with other Clinical Supervising Physicians as determined by the Chief of the department. The PA will function as a part of an interdisciplinary team and will engage in patient assessments, diagnostic workups, procedures, and management as determined by the Canadian Association of Physician Assistant Scope of Practice and National Competency Profile and the supervising physician. The degree of supervision and practice will be a product of assessment of competency of the PA by the physician and in accordance with existing regulation of Physician Assistant by the college of Physician Assistant and Surgeons of New Brunswick.QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be certified either through the Physician Assistant Certification Council Canda or the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants from the United States.
- Must be eligible for registration by the College of Physician Assistant and Surgeons of New Brunswick.
- Must have current BLS (Basis Life Support).
- Must have recent well rounded clinical experience and preferably been exposed to Emergency Medicine in the workplace or as part of clinical training.
- Current ACLS (Advance Cardiac Life Support) certification or willing to obtain within 6 months.
- ATLS (Advance Trauma Life Support) certification is an asset.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment is an asset.
- Ability to fill open shifts on short notice.
- Ability to perform the duties of the position.
- Good work record.
- Evaluate Emergency Department patients, order necessary testing and imaging.
- Work with Attending Emergency Department Physicians to develop treatment and discharge plans.
- Liaise with allied health, nursing team and consultants.
