- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the asphalt plant using motor controls and a computer controlled blending system to produce quality asphalt product.
- Record-keeping of material use and equipment hours.
- Understanding of asphalt mix designs, oils and test results.
- Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment and electrical components of plants.
- Communicate with workers regarding the operating efficiency of the plant, asphalt order quantities and technical and mechanical issues.
- Coordinate with the Quality Control department to ensure high quality production of asphalt products.
- Perform inspections of the plant site, noting and addressing any issues.
- Utilize effective planning skills, adjusting start times and loading times to ensure both timeliness and efficiency in the production process.
- Communicate with Paving Superintendents and Foreman to determine quanities and ensure production levels are being met.
- Order product and supplies according to job quantities and demands.
- Participate as a team member, and contribute towards the success of the organization.
- Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information.
- Promote, execute, and adhere to the company's safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
- Work in a safe and responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
- Must ensure a solid understanding of and comply with the principles of the company's Code of Ethics.
- Must examine situations considering the principles of the Code of Ethics.
- Other labour and operation related duties as required.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred
- Class 5 driver's license is required.
- Training in Confident Space Entry, Aerial Lift and Fall Arrest preferred.
- Experience within a road construction company is a definite asset.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of asphalt equipment.
- Weather dependent schedule of Monday to Saturday, up to 12 hours per day. All overtime is paid in accordance with applicable employment standards legislation.
- Out of town travel may be required. Accommodations and LOA is provided in most situations.
- Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
- Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.
- Must comply with the company's durg and alcohol testing requirements.
