- Be a positive role model and student advocate.
- Provide individual and/or small group support to Indigenous and self-identified students.
- Learn, help, and then teach Lil’wat Principles.
- Accountable for self, students and teachings.
- Work in collaboration with the ISW team, classroom teacher, and school administration to foster a culturally safe learning environment for students.
- Join students in their activities, enhancing connections and modelling the experience.
- Guide students in developing school-related problem-solving skills, and when necessary, steer students to proper resources.
- Documentation of student incidents in tandem with the SD48 representative.
- Report to the Indigenous Advocate Supervisor of events breaching safety, policy, and/or protocols.
- Perform other job related duties within the scope of the role as presented by both Lil’wat Nation & SD48.
- A minimum of one year of related experience with local cultural knowledge.
- Preferable completion of Grade 12 or equivalent certification.
- Work collaboratively & cooperatively with school administrators, teachers and staff.
- Motivated self-starter, good time management, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated experience in working successfully with Indigenous students, and the community.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
- Ability to follow through with assignments, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and maintain confidentiality.
- Highly professional in all aspects of business, presentation, and interaction with students, parents, co-workers, and community members.
- Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check, including the vulnerable sector.
- Act in the strictest confidentiality and professional manner always, including outside regular working hours.
