Job Description:We are looking for a Senior Property Accountant to oversee and manage the financial operations of a diverse portfolio of commercial and residential properties in Ottawa, Ontario. This position requires someone with strong attention to detail, expertise in property accounting, and the ability to streamline processes while ensuring compliance with financial regulations. The ideal candidate will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the broader real estate team.Responsibilities:
  • Manage the complete accounting cycle for a portfolio of commercial and residential properties, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports, including variance analyses and reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with Property Managers to address issues related to rent rolls, tenant accounts, and accounts receivable.
  • Reconcile loans, mortgages, and reserve accounts, ensuring alignment with third-party statements.
  • Post and review journal entries for accruals, amortization, rental deposits, and capital asset schedules.
  • Assist in the development of annual budgets, financial forecasts, and year-end documentation.
  • Ensure financial statements are accurate and comply with internal controls and industry standards.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement efficiencies in accounting systems.
  • Create and refine reporting tools to facilitate a streamlined month-end close process.
  • Mentor entry level and intermediate accountants, providing guidance and acting as a subject matter expert.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in full-cycle property accounting for commercial and/or residential real estate.
  • Proficiency in accounting software systems, preferably Yardi.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Familiarity with tenant ledger management, rent rolls, and accounts receivable processes.
  • Expertise in preparing budgets, forecasts, and year-end working papers.
  • Ability to implement process improvements and streamline reporting methods.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a focus on collaboration.
  • Solid understanding of internal controls and compliance requirements.
Client is seeking a designated CPA or person currently in the later stages of completing their CPA.This is a Hybrid-Work opportunity requiring 4 days in office.Opportunity to join a large team with opportunities to grow.
