As an integral member of the interprofessional Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) Program, and specifically within the GoodHope Exercise and Rehabilitation (GEAR) team, the physiotherapist will be responsible for the development and delivery of clinical programming, education, and research tasks related to physical activity and exercise prescription support to individuals living with EDS and generalized hypermobility spectrum disorders in clos collaboration with all team members.Duties
- Conducting musculoskeletal/neurological assessments and developing and/or reviewing individualized exercise prescriptions for patients according to their symptoms of EDS and other comorbidities as appropriate
- Progression and/or modification of exercise prescriptions according to patient outcomes
- Providing exercise education
- Delivering and monitoring in-person and online exercise sessions (sometimes including, via vital signs and other responses to exercise, such as blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, rating of perceived exertion, symptoms of over-exertion)
- Supervising/mentoring trainees and students
- Supporting patients throughout their exercise program by providing in-person and on-line/telephone support
- Re-evaluating patients needs, discharge planning for patients upon program completion and supporting their transition to community resources
- Appropriate documentation of patient interactions
- Quality assurance, administrative and program related marketing activities
- Contributing to the development of clinical research innovations in programming and care, supporting research activity such as data collection, entry cleaning, and monitoring related to the research goals of the program
- Booking clinical and/or research visits for patients, liaising with members of the interdisciplinary team
- Performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required
- Masters Degree in Science (Physiotherapy) or recognized equivalent based on Registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
- One year related experience
- Experience with exercise prescription in musculoskeletal and neuromusculoskeletal conditions and chronic disease management essential
- Experience with group education preferred
- Experience with pelvic floor therapy an asset
- Registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
- Membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association preferred

- Recognized and acts within the scope and limitations of the physiotherapist
- Ability to exercise sound clinical judgement and to function in an independent, self-directed manner
- Computer proficiency
- Demonstrate capacity to manage time and tasks within a busy clinical and research environment and the ability to focus on the priorities across a rapidly changing day
- The successful incumbent will show initiative within existing projects and those that emerge as the program grows and evolves
