
Clinical Extern, Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapy

- Assist with patient mobility, positioning, repositioning, transfers (ex. Bed, chair, Wheelchair, commode/toilet, supporting mechanical lift transfers)
- Assist with PT/OT assigned treatment plans with a functional and/or therapeutic exercise focus, individual or group based
- Assist with patient ambulation and utilization of appropriate assistive devices when required (cane, walker, W/C, appropriate footwear, splints)
- Demonstrates accountability for own patient are by adhering to Hospital’s policies and procedures
- Assist with treatment intervention under supervision, Examples: Individual and group based, cognitive, range of motion that they have the knowledge, skill and judgement to do safely, excluding controlled acts.
- Provides care in collaboration with staff, and communicates with members of the interdisciplinary care team, as appropriate
- Support development of patient independence in the practice of scheduling and directing their own care as related to self-care, productivity and recreation/ leisure participation.
- In partnership with patient/families and the interdisciplinary team, assist with the provision of patient and family-centred care which is goal directed, evidence based and outcome oriented
- Supports and respects the patient/family’s rights to make decisions based on their own values, beliefs and experiences
- Ensures delivery of efficient and effective unit working environment by participating in quality improvement activities such as; Supporting social and leisure interaction activities, answering call bells and triaging patient needs, restocking supplies, cleaning/sanitizing and maintenance checks of surfaces and mobility equipment etc. In addition to other duties as assigned.
- Proof of current enrollment in an accredited PT or OT graduate degree program
- Bachelors degree in health-related field is preferred
- Ability to work independently and as a part of the interdisciplinary team, and effectively manage challenging situations
- Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels
- Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills
- Demonstrated effective critical thinking, analytical, decision making and problem-resolution skills
- Interest in supporting our Geriatric population
