- Coordinates and supports the day-to-day processing of payroll across multiple employee groups.
- Ensures payroll is processed accurately and in accordance with applicable legislation, collective agreements, policies, and internal controls.
- Reviews payroll transactions including earnings, deductions, taxable benefits, retroactive adjustments, remittances, and other payroll changes.
- Supports payroll balancing, reconciliations, and validation activities to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Supports month-end, quarter-end, and year-end payroll activities, including statutory reporting and reconciliations.
- Assists with payroll audits and supports preparation of payroll-related documentation and reporting.
- Acts as a subject matter expert for payroll processes and payroll-related HRIS administration.
- Supports payroll system configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and process changes in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintains payroll data integrity and supports system updates, audits, and controls.
- Provides day-to-day guidance, coordination, and support within the payroll team.
- Helps prioritize work, support workload distribution, and maintain continuity of payroll operations.
- Leads the development, documentation, and maintenance of payroll procedures, and process improvements.
- Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, accuracy, and service delivery within payroll operations.
- Acts as a key point of contact for escalated payroll inquiries and supports timely, accurate resolution of payroll-related issues.
- Provides guidance and support to employees, leaders, and internal partners on payroll processes, timelines, and practices.
- Helps maintain a consistent, service-oriented payroll experience through clear communication and follow-through.
- Identifies recurring payroll issues or trends and recommends improvements to reduce risk and improve employee experience.
- Diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- 5–7 years of progressive payroll experience with proven leadership capabilities, preferably in a complex, multi-entity and/or unionized environment.
- PCP designation required; CPM considered an asset.
- Experience working with payroll and HRIS systems in a mid- to large-sized organization. UKG knowledge is an asset.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
