- Review and evaluate employee eligibility for Short Term Disability (STD), medical accommodation and attendance support requests in accordance with policy provisions and applicable collective agreements.
- Manage the day-to-day activities for case management services including communication of decisions to all stakeholders
- Liaison with health care providers and third-party administrators/vendors such as LTD insurers, rehabilitation service providers, etc.
- Administer the Fit for Duty Program including medication review in line with disability management best practice and corporate strategy, relevant legislation, and collective agreements.
- Coordinate and implement modified work assignments/ return to work/ work hardening plans for employees.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to assess and proactively manage an employee's absence and accommodation needs.
- Review case and provide preparatory support in employee claims appeals, grievances including representing Metrolinx on litigated claims.
- Educate stakeholders on Health and Wellness policies and processes to ensure efficiency, fair and consistent practices.
- Manage internal stakeholder relationships to ensure appropriate follow-up is provided for safe and timely return to work.
- Maintain excellent relationships with vendors and stakeholders to ensure quality and consistent services are provided and delivered.
- Ensure that Health & Wellness program services are being delivered in compliance with legislation (PIPEDA, PHIPA, AODA, OHRC).
- Maintain the integrity and privacy of highly confidential personal and medical information.
- Monitor workplace and workforce trends and support the preparation of statistical data on incidents/illnesses for regular reporting and to make practical recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Completion of relevant University and/or college program in a related field or discipline; nursing preferred.
- Current registration with regulated college and in good standing
- Demonstrated experience in administering Disability Management programs including Short Term Disability (STD), Long-Term Disability (LTD) and medical accommodation case management within a large and unionized environment.
- Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) designation or working toward or a health-related designation would be an asset.
- Demonstrated training and experience in disability claims management and modified return-to-work and accommodations in an employer setting. Specific experience with mental health and substance use claims preferred.
- Excellent Microsoft Office and Excel to prepare reports and charts for reporting trends; good knowledge of disability management software (experience with Sodales would be an asset).
- Excellent knowledge of applicable legislation; Ontario Human Rights Code (Duty to Accommodate), Occupational Health & Safety Act, Knowledge of WSIA, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and other related legislation.
- Ability to understand, interpret and apply disability management principles in unionized and non-unionized settings.
- Sound knowledge in interpreting medical and functional information.
- Ability to deal with highly confidential information, sensitive and emotional situations.
- Strong conflict resolution/mediation and decision-making skills would be an asset.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (oral/written/presentation) required.
