SCOPE OF POSITIONThe Bag Machine Operator reports to the Shift Supervisor, Calgary Plastic Division. Machine Operator operates machinery in the most efficient manner possible creating a minimum amount of waste. Operator is responsible for the quality and quantity of material being produced. Works safely always, keep work area clean and performs duties required for the day-to-day operation of his/her specific work area.Within the limits of applicable policies, procedures and established plans, this role has the authority to take action and make decisions. The assignment of work or delegation or responsibility does not relinquish responsibility for results. Performance will be measured by the extent to which the responsibilities have been fulfilled. Read and understand the required JSA’s, maintain quality as per the Quality Manual specifications and achieve company target production goals.FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrate a commitment to Safety by following safety rules & guidelines.
Responsible for reporting unsafe conditions or unsafe acts observed during the work shift.
Correctly reads and understands a Work Order.
Removes the bags from the machines for packaging.
Responsible for correct count and quantity of bags in boxes or master containers.
Assembling and labeling cartons.
Work is completed within established standards of accuracy and efficiency.
Able to consistently produce less than 1% of non-conforming product.
Capable of quickly correcting non-conformances in process.
Completes set-ups and order changes as required.
Monitors running conditions on a regular basis.
Stores material in proper location.
Assists other operatons on machines and helps to move pallets to and from machines.
Able to communicate with co-workers and management.
Able to take direction from Supervisor and Lead Hand.
Other duties as required.

Read and understand the Job Safety Analysis (JSA)

Understand the safety features of the equipment, such as guards, emergency stops and start up signals

Understand and follow the food, safety, and quality procedures
Understand and perform good housekeeping practices continuously
Read and understand a work order
Communicate to supervisor if unable to work shift for any reason. Employees are expected to call in each day they are absent on the Mandatory Absent Line and must be in enough time to give adequate notice to find replacement coverage for affected shift.

Grade 12 Diploma
