The professorial rank will be determined according to the chosen candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.The McGill University Department of Pediatrics is a leader in academic medicine. The Montreal Children’s Hospital (MCH) of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec. All pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties are represented at the MCH. The Research Institute of the MUHC has a Centre for Innovative Medicine platform to facilitate clinical trials.The McGill University Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery is composed of a thriving community of neurologists, neurosurgeons, and neuroscientists offering the highest degree of excellence in patient care, education, and research, integrated in a vast array of innovative programs and academic opportunities. Members of the department of Neurology and Neurosurgery can be found at all McGill teaching hospitals and affiliated sites/centres including the McGill University Health Centre (Montreal Children's Hospital, Montreal General Hospital, Royal Victoria Hospital and the Neuro), the Jewish General Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital. Affiliated research institutes include the Montreal Neurological Institute, Lady Davis Research Institute, MUHC Research Institute/Centre for Research in Neuroscience and the Douglas Mental Health University Institute.The Division of Pediatric Neurology is a clinically and academically nationally and internationally recognized outstanding group. We currently have 9 full-time McGill faculty who are child neurologists, including four externally funded fundamental and clinical researchers and six Associate Members, four of whom are research focused, one is a pediatric physiatrist, and one a community-based child neurologist. All division members are involved in teaching. Strongly committed to multi-disciplinary care, the Division provides both outpatient and inpatient consultation to all areas of the hospital and offers the full range of neurological and neurodiagnostic services.The Division has an active, fully accredited Royal College Child Neurology Residency program and available fellowships in epilepsy, neurodevelopmental disorders, neuromuscular disorders, and neurogenetics. We provide a full range of child neurology services through a multidisciplinary team approach. We have excellent clinical programs in cerebral palsy, developmental delay, neonatal neurology, neurogenetics, neuromuscular disorders, epilepsy, and neuroinflammatory disorders.Job DutiesThe successful candidate will be expected to be an active physician member of the Division of Child Neurology at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, MUHC. The incumbent will be expected to cover on-call duties in Pediatric Neurology on a 1:9 equitable basis. Academic clinicians are expected to cover the consult service roughly 6-10 weeks per year and hold a minimum 5 half-day outpatient clinics (in the hospital setting and selectively in affiliated centres around Montreal) per week. Supervision of house staff (fellows, residents, and medical students) is required for both the consult service and in external clinics.Supervision of undergraduate and graduate trainees and participation in the pediatric neurology subspecialty training program is expected. Physicians in the Division of Child Neurology are also expected to contribute to our interdisciplinary education mission, supporting the education and professional development of nurses, nurse practitioners, and other health professionals. Clinical innovations that could be brought forward and implemented in our environment would also be viewed as assets.The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in relevant aspects of McGill’s academic mission (e.g., teaching, research, supervision of students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees). They will be expected to provide excellent clinical teaching and supervision to a diverse group of residents and medical students.McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University and in their wider scholarly peer community.   • Hold an MD degree (or equivalent) as well as postgraduate clinical training in Pediatrics;
  • Have completed specialty training in Pediatric Neurology with certification by the Collège des médecins du Québec or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent);
  • Preference will be given to candidates with subspecialty fellowship and acquired expertise in neurodevelopmental disorders with a particular emphasis on cerebral palsy and global developmental delay/intellectual disability;
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated commitment to excellence, teamwork, and continuous personal and professional development and a passion for the development of pediatric clinical neurosciences;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to, and evidence of, high-quality teaching and inclusive pedagogy with a track record of collegiality and synergistic collaboration;
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families, and health care professionals.
