- Work with the Director, Day Camps on hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance evaluation for a team of 40+ staff at multiple sites around HRM
- Ensure staff provide the quality care and engaging programming that the YMCA promises its families
- Collaborate with all camp staff to create a positive and inclusive camp environment while role modeling YMCA’s childcare best practices
- Communicate with families and guide them through the registration and financial assistance processes, in addition to supporting additional questions and/or inquiries regarding camp
- Work in collaboration with internal and external partners on advertising summer day camp and financial assistance opportunities
- Help purchase, organize, and deliver necessary materials to day camp locations throughout HRM to ensure the continued delivery of quality programming
- In collaboration with the Director and Site Leads, develop a catalogue of engaging activities to be led by day camp staff. Ensure programming is engaging, age-appropriate, intentional, and risk is minimized
- Maintain open day-to-day communication with designated camp sites. Discuss situations and solutions with the Director, Day Camp when appropriate. Connect with YMCA parents and families to ensure day camp programming meets their needs and expectations
- Enforce camp safety rules and procedures, including first aid and emergency response protocols. Be prepared to respond quickly to situations at multiple sites throughout HRM
- Identify potential improvements to camp and work with the team to implement them
- Foster an environment that promotes diversity, equity, belonging, and inclusion and respect among all YMCA staff and participants
- Additional duties as assigned by Director
- High School diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience, with a strong character reference required
- Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education or related field is an asset
- 5+ years' experience working with children and youth
- Prior experience in a supervisory role
- Cross-cultural communication skills to work with youth, parents/guardians, and staff
- Ability to meet multiple, competing deadlines and priorities
- Access to a reliable method of transport
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation/workshop facilitation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check (less than 6 months old), if 18 years of age or older
- Attend Child Safeguarding Training upon hire
- Valid First Aid and CPR Training
