From field exploration and lab testing to designing and managing the construction of complex geotechnical structures, our team does rock-solid work.Join our team and discover the opportunities that await.Stantec is seeking an engineer specializing in mine tailings management to support the growth of the Tailings and Mine Waste department in Montréal. This strategic position requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a solid understanding of the Canadian mining sector.Key responsibilitiesInfrastructure Design and ManagementDesign and plan tailings storage facilities (TSFs), waste rock storage facilities (WRSFs), and water management systems, including dikes and containment structures, in compliance with applicable standards.Conduct risk assessments, dam safety reviews, and inspections; analyze structural performance and recommend optimization measures.Contribute to the development of closure and reclamation plans in accordance with regulatory requirements.Oversee the preparation and review of technical documentation, provide support to field teams, and collaborate closely with related disciplines.Technical Deliverables and DocumentationPrepare and contribute to the production of comprehensive, rigorous, and high-quality engineering reports that meet technical and regulatory requirements.Produce technical deliverables adapted to the various study phases (Concept, PEA, PFS, FS, and detailed engineering).Draft technical memoranda, design criteria, and detailed stability analyses, ensuring clarity, consistency, and traceability of assumptions and results.If you see yourself in this role, apply today or contact Benjamin Ponchon, your recruiter, on LinkedIn for more information.Your backgroundMaster’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical specializationPhD in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical specialization (an asset)Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)Minimum of 15 years of geotechnical experience in the mining industryTechnical ExperienceSignificant experience in the design, stability analysis, and management of tailings storage facilities (TSFs), waste rock dumps, and associated containment structures.Strong expertise in geotechnical characterization of mining materials, dam and dike design, and stability analysis of structures.Solid understanding of mining operations and tailings management, with proven experience in an engineering consulting environment.Technical SkillsRequired software: Proficiency with essential geotechnical tools, including GEO‑SLOPE (SLOPE/W, SEEP/W), PLAXIS or RS2, and AutoCAD.Additional tools (asset): Experience with FLAC and computational or programming environments such as MATLAB or Python.Interpersonal SkillsExcellent communication skills in both French and English, with strong teaching abilities and proven effectiveness in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.Strong critical and analytical thinking, with a demonstrated ability to make sound technical decisions in a timely manner.Your keys to successExperience working in the mining industry, including participation in mine closure and site rehabilitation projects.Demonstrated technical contributions through publications or presentations, supported by additional professional certifications.Sommaire des avantages sociaux: Avantages sociaux au Canada : Les employés à temps partiel et à temps plein auront accès aux avantages sociaux suivants : régimes de soins de santé, de soins dentaires et de la vue, programme de bien-être, comptes de crédits-santé et de mieux-être, régime enregistré d’épargne-retraite collectif, régime d’actionnariat des employés, compte d’épargne libre d’impôt (CELI) collectif, assurance vie et assurance décès ou mutilation accidentels (DMA), régimes d’assurance invalidité de courte et de longue durée, assistance-voyage en cas d’urgence, remboursement des frais de scolarité, couverture des frais d’adhésion à des associations professionnelles et congés payés.Les employés temporaires ou occasionnels auront accès aux avantages sociaux suivants : régime enregistré d’épargne-retraite collectif, régime d’actionnariat des employés et compte d’épargne libre d’impôt collectif.Primary Location: Canada | QC | Laval
