My 91-year-old father is visually and hearing impaired but can move around his Port Hope house and cook. He is quite isolated and doesn't have many friends in the area. He would like companionship and perhaps some assistance with activities such as putting recycling bins to road, light house duties such as putting recycling/garbage bins to the road, washing bed sheets, cleaning hearing aids, opening mail, reading some material he has received, small amount of food prep, setting up appointments, maybe doing a little work in the back yard. He does have someone to come and do yard work such as cut the lawn. Has also has a housekeeper who comes weekly. He can't drive so he would need someone to do errands for groceries or other supplies, take him to visit the bank or other shops such as a butcher, go to local appointments including some medical appointments. Occasionally he may need to go to the ophthalmologist in Peterborough. At present he has meds delivered but sometimes they need to be picked up if a new prescription. He does smoke a pipe in the house, though he is trying not to smoke in the mornings, so the house isn't too smoky. Coming from an educational background and being an artist, my father takes great interest in current affairs, although his failing eyesight has meant he can no longer pursue his art. The ideal candidate lives in or near Port Hope and is understanding of elderly folk, capable of doing some odd jobs, and has a sense of current events. No medical support is required. Please note, it is essential for candidates to have a valid driver's license. We'd like someone approximately 2-3 hours a day, maybe sometimes on a Saturday or Sunday but the weekend work isn't imperative.
