
Paving Screed Operator

- Must have 1 to 2 years of industrial or civil construction or equivalent experience.
- Must have 3-5 years' experience operating a screed.
- Hours: Project dependent
- Must be willing to work evenings and weekends on various schedules.

- Perform asphalt paving tasks including but not limited to: spreading and leveling asphalt, compacting surfaces using rollers, excavating and grading areas, and operating skid steers for various tasks.
- Adhere to environmental regulations and company policies regarding waste disposal and material usage.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance and prevent downtime.
- Responsible for estimating overall quantity for the project as well as the quantity needed to achieve the correct grade in the finished surface.
- Ability to use automatic grade controls.
- Manually set angle and depth of screed.
- Operate valves to regulate flow of material at a specified rate.
- Communicates with asphalt paving operator on flow of paving machine. Observes distribution of material over road surfaces to ensure uniform distribution.
- Using depth gauge, verify depth specifications of compacted asphalt.
- Maintain the pace and continuity of the paving job.
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on the equipment.
- Other duties as required.
- Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust, grease, fumes, odors, oil, asphalt, and toxic and flammable substances.
- Required to perform tasks that involve heavy lifting, bending, and strenuous movements.
- Use of personal protection equipment is required.
- Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear required when working outdoors.
- Required to perform tasks that involve bending and strenuous movements.
- 3-5 years' as a screed operator required.
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining asphalt paving equipment such as rollers, excavators, skid steers, dozers, graders, and water trucks.
- Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS 09 or 2020), WHMIS 2015, and ground disturbance 201 are required.
- Valid class 5 or better driver's license with clean drivers abstract (3A license required for Water Truck Operators).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to interpret project plans and specifications.
