
Heavy Duty Mechanic

- Complete work as directed by Shop Foreman/Lead Head.
- Perform a variety of tasks involving manual labor in heavy/highway construction and construction material plants.
- Maintain wide range of equipment and troubleshoot malfunction from a mechanical, electric and electronic standpoint.
- Operates several types of construction equipment, in order to evaluate condition.
- Maintain a clean job site: pick up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards.
- Load and unload trucks and haul and hoist materials.
- Operates metal cutting, machining, and welding (oxyacetylene, electric, and arc welding) equipment in the repair of mechanical equipment and fabrication of tools, jigs, and fixtures.
- Welds, brazes, solders, and cuts steel, copper, cast aluminum, cast iron, stainless steel, and other metals and alloys and does emergency on-site or schedules shop repair and metal work.
- Designs, fashions, and forges new tools, iron work, and metal parts; modifies existing equipment for special purposes.
- Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed.
- Attend Safety Meetings and meet training goals for job role and advancement
- Minimum four (4) years experience working within a shop environment
- Minimum two (2) years experience working as a mechanic on construction equipment
- Minimum two (2) years of field experience
- Red Seal Certification
- Can work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Good computer skills in troubleshooting equipment software
- Must be a strong team player, with strong customer service orientation
- Willing to work in field and in all weather conditions
- Willing to work overtime (may include weekends) during the busy season (April to October) and on call as necessary.
- Ability to utilize hands and fingers in order to perform repair and maintenance task on construction equipment
- Ability to stand, walk, and reach with arms and hands throughout the workday should the need arise
- Ability to lift and carry 50lb
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch should the need arise
- Ability to see clearly or with assistance via necessary correction
- The noise level on the shop floor and around equipment may be loud
