
HVAC/R Service Technician

- Perform scheduled maintenance and emergency service on a variety of HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Diagnose and repair issues with equipment such as chillers, rooftop units, air handling units, boilers, VRF systems, and more.
- Install new HVAC/R systems and components in accordance with manufacturer specifications and local codes.
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, equipment schematics, and manufacturers specifications
- Compile detailed material and labour take-offs for repairs and installations
- Establish, maintain, and communicate up-to-date work schedule
- Communicate effectively with clients to explain issues, recommend solutions, and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with team members and other trades to complete projects efficiently and safely.
- Deliver exceptional customer service while fostering lasting client relationships
- Respond to emergency repair calls
- Participate in rotating 24/7 emergency on-call schedule
- Engage in continuous professional development
- Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Technical Expertise
Chillers, Rooftop Units (RTUs), Air Handling Units (AHUs), Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRV) / Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV), Make-Up Air Units (MUA), Boilers, Cooling Towers, Heat Pumps, Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) Systems, Ventilation Systems * Electrical Proficiency: Solid understanding of electrical systems and components, including wire sizing, overcurrent protection, and control systems.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong hands-on skills with tools and equipment used in HVAC/R installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Analytical Problem-Solving: Proven ability to systematically troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues efficiently and effectively.
- Customer-Focused Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to clearly explain technical issues and solutions to clients, ensuring a positive service experience.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Trade Certification: Journeyperson Trade Qualification as a Refrigeration Mechanic registered in British Columbia.
- Electrical Licensing: Class B-R Refrigeration Field Safety Representative (FSR) certification.
- Environmental Compliance: CFC/ODS Certification.
- Gas Fitting: Class B Gas Fitter certification (Class A considered an asset).
- Apprenticeship Consideration: Motivated apprentices actively working toward trade certification in refrigeration and air conditioning may also be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of relative trade experience
- Experience with control systems an asset
- Regulatory Knowledge: Thorough understanding of municipal and provincial technical safety authorities and applicable regulations.
- Technology Proficiency: Comfortable learning and working with various communication and digital platforms.
- Teamwork & Independence: Capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Work Ethic: Demonstrates a strong commitment to meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality work.
- Policy Compliance: Adheres to company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Driver's License: Possesses a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License with a clean driving abstract.
- Background Screening: Willingness to undergo a Criminal Record Check or Credit Check, as required by specific job sites.
- Union Membership: Must maintain active membership in good standing with the Refrigeration Air Conditioning Service & Installation Workers United Association Local Union 516UA.
