Senior AccountantVCA Canada Animal HospitalsSupport Office - Calgary, AlbertaPosition: Hybrid (office/remote) 3 days in office/2 remoteReports to: Director, Accounting & ReportingParking: On-siteGym: On-sitePets: Well-behaved pets welcomed in the officeThe Position:As a Senior Accountant, you will join our Financial Reporting team, reporting to the Director of Accounting & Reporting. The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of operational and financial reporting tasks, with responsibilities as follows:Analyze periodic results and provide explanations for the budget, forecast and prior year variancesPrepare and review journal entries, working papers and reconciliationsMaintain 150 plus lease portfolio's: tracking and related accounting in accordance with ASC 842Provide reporting on lease portfolio, previous experience with Lucernex will be considered an assetAnalyze and reconcile variances between the general ledger, sub ledger and systemsProactively identify and implement process improvements and efficienciesResearch, analyze and implement new accounting standards or changes to compliance requirementsAssist with managing the annual audit processDocument and ensure compliance with processes and internal controlsDevelop a detailed understanding of ORACLE and how it connects to associated programsPrepare ad hoc report requests from Operations teams and/or managementProvide support to junior accountantsOur ideal candidate:A professional accounting designation; CPA or working towards.Minimum 4 years progressive experience in the accounting field, preferably in a high transactional industry or with an accounting firmThorough understanding of accounting standards, previous experience with US GAAP will be considered an asset.Strong time management skills, able to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment with the ability to prioritizeAbility to adapt to changing priorities and processesDisplays a positive attitude with a willingness to learnA solution focused, collaborative approach to continuous improvementExcellent oral and written communication and people skills; ability to quickly gain the trust and confidence of team members, leaders and others within the organization across different locationsStrong attention to detail and a commitment to ensuring deadlines are kept and achievedExceptional Excel skills with the ability to manage, analyze and simplify large amounts of dataWorking knowledge of ORACLE or similar ERP systems and Power Query, Power BI or other data analytic tools would be an assetWhat VCA Canada OffersAt our core are our people – people with different strengths and interests that enrich our diversity, innovation, and excellence.
