Job Description:POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor Child Care Centre, carries out activity programs for children in the Child Care Centre.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plans and implements developmentally appropriate learning activities/programs based on the holistic development of all children.
  • Assists the Supervisor in implementing policies and procedures of the Centre including health and safety procedures.
  • Provides back-up for the Supervisor during absences, administering medication, completing budget ledgers and statistical records, and ensuring payment of centre expenditures.
  • Maintains an orderly, tidy and fully equipped Centre by ensuring that materials are available and requests for replacements and repairs are made when necessary.
  • Participates in staff and parent meetings, special events, and works with outside agencies.
  • Participates in orientation of new staff members and students.
  • Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Experience:
  • Diploma in early childhood education or early childhood education equivalency; and
  • Certification as an early childhood educator; and
  • Three years’ experience in a child care setting
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Child Care and Early Years Act
Skills/Abilities:
  • A demonstrated ability to meet and work with people
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Must be at a basic skill level in word processing and spreadsheet software
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • Must have and maintain First Aid Certification
  • Must have and maintain Safe Food Handling Certification (Level 1)
  • Must have and maintain an up-to-date record of immunization
  • Prior to commencing employment, must provide documentary evidence of having undergone a one-step tuberculosis skin test
  • Must have and maintain membership with the College of Early Childhood Educators
