
Sample Receiver - Trainee

- Receive and inspect submissions. Identify and coordinate the resolution of concerns with the submission. Input information into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Coordinate the transfer of samples to the next departments for testing.
- Receive lab materials and samples. Use lab information systems to document and track the location of items. Ensure items are stored in appropriate locations. Retrieve items and distribute them to the appropriate lab areas. Dispose of items in an appropriate and safe manner.
- Receive incoming parcels and complete appropriate documentation
- Unpack parcels and organize samples or lab materials according to requirements
- Review paperwork against samples or lab materials received
- Identify and report all concerns with submissions, which may include concerns regarding:
- Received time and temperature
- Condition of the samples received
- Missing or extra samples
- Sampling date issues
- Review of analysis requests
- Escalate issues to senior staff as needed
- Input information into LIMS - data entry
- Create a record of each sample or lab material received. Ensure accurate labelling and distribution of these items to the appropriate areas.
- Create and organize documents such as job entry sheets, worksheets, COCs, Packing Slips, Waybills, etc.
- Transport and store all samples and materials appropriately
- Retrieve samples and lab materials and deliver or dispose in an appropriate and timely manner
- Pack and ship samples and lab materials according to local and international guidelines
- Prioritize and manage work based on provided guidelines
- Collaborate with internal clients to resolve operations issues
- Coordinate with team members to ensure that critical deadlines are met
- Strict adherence to safety practices, policies, procedures, work instructions, other documents, and requirements
- Create and maintain a clean, sanitary, neat/tidy, safe/secure working environment
- Maintain and demonstrate a commitment to safety and ethics
- Maintain an appropriate level of accuracy and efficiency

- Proficient with computer systems and data management; demonstrates strong keyboarding and mousing skills, navigates software and file structures efficiently, and confidently executes data entry and retrieval across multiple sources.
- Possesses the ability to strategically identify information/data locations to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Excellent attention to detail, retention of knowledge, and accuracy is required
- Confident communication skills (both written and verbal skills in English)
- High level of work production in fast-paced lab environment

- Ability to travel to and from client sites and stores for sampling/purchasing workflows is an asset (G licence with a vehicle)
- Preferred qualifications:
- Microbiology and chemistry knowledge is an asset.
- Experience in a laboratory environment is an asset.
- Full availability for any shift, any day, including nights, weekends and holidays
- Overtime may be required depending on volume
- Work with appropriate personal protective equipment is required (lab coat, safety glasses, etc.)
- Frequent bending, lifting, and carrying of samples/containers is required
- Must be able to lift up to 40lbs
- Repetitive lifting of manageable weights is required
- Must maintain an attention to detail over an extended period of time
- Exposure to all types of food products (including allergens and raw meat/seafood) in varying conditions•Working around strong odours and noise may be required
- Long periods of standing, and working on a computer, focused attention
- Long periods of sitting may also be required
- Frequent walking between departments for sample transfer or coordination
- Occasional exposure to narrow working spaces
- Exposure to cold (walk-in fridge/freezers, seasonal temperatures)
- Exposure to heat (walk-in incubators, seasonal temperatures)
- Working with chemicals is required
- Potential exposure to hazardous materials; use established safety procedures and appropriate equipment
- Travel to and from client sites for on-site sampling, or to stores for purchasing
