- Design analog and digital circuits for sonar hardware. This includes Pre-Amps, AFEs, Filters, ADCs, FPGAs, CPUs, communication protocols (Ethernet, PCIe, I2C, SPI, RS232, RS485, etc.), and power supplies (isolated high voltage and point of load).
- Design PCB schematics and symbols, work on component floor planning, and support PCB layout using OrCAD/Allegro and/or CADstar.
- Source electronic components and evaluate based on datasheets and manufacturers documentation. Working with vendors to select the best options for functionality, availability, and cost.
- Use simulation tools and prototype circuitry to prove the design.
- Conduct design verification and validation through simulation, prototyping, and lab testing. Determining the limits of the design and ensuring sufficient margin to meet the defined requirements across all operational environments.
- Collaborate with other departments and individuals including mechanical, software, transducer and systems engineers, sales and marketing, manufacturing and operations, to ensure efficient end to end development of subsea products.
- Design for manufacturability (DFM) / Design for test (DFT) for low to medium volume production.
- Support manufacturing processes, including BOM generation, test fixture design, and troubleshooting production issues.
- Help develop project plans and work on time and cost analysis.
- Document designs, test procedures, and verification results in accordance with engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, or combination of equivalent experience and education.
- 5+ years' experience developing electrical analog/digital circuit design and PCB development.
- Strong understanding of CPUs, FPGAs, ADCs, and power supply architecture.
- Strong experience with power supplies and analog circuit design in small signal environments. Expertise in low noise and variable gain amplifiers, active and passive filter design, transducer interface (both transmit and receive), and motor drives.
- Hands on schematic capture and PCB layout experience, ideally using OrCAD.
- Proficiency in circuit simulation tools (e.g., LTspice, PSpice) and PCB design software.
- Strong understanding of signal integrity, EMC/EMI considerations, and power electronics.
- Experience with design verification, including test planning, data analysis, and debugging.
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment for development and troubleshooting (e.g.: oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators).
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, component selection, and lifecycle management.
- Strong experience in engineering project management and lifecycle, getting products from concept to completion.
- Takes initiative at their level to make decisions that align with the overall strategic mission of Kongsberg Discovery Canada Programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication with both internal and external customers
- Positive attitude and ability to work well with other departments, product centres, regional offices, outside vendors, customers, and end users.
- Experience with subsea or marine electronics, sonar systems, or harsh environment designs.
- Familiarity with compliance testing (e.g., CE, FCC, MIL-STD).
- Experience with VHDL, Verilog, C/C++, Python, and LabView.
- Manufacturing Engineering experience.
- Project management experience is a plus.
