Description :The Mustard Seed is seeking a compassionate candidate who is sensitive to clients' experiences and emotions, possesses knowledge of trauma and its effects, and can provide trauma-informed care.Reporting to the Health and Wellness Manager, the Recovery Advocate is a member of a multidisciplinary team on a recovery transitional housing program. The program will be based on a sober recovery model, with intakes taking place on a rolling basis. The program will focus on building skills, understanding of trauma and social connection, and development of relapse prevention strategies. This will be coupled with transitional housing supports, which will focus on building recovery capital in multiple areas such as skills for independent living, financial literacy, employment, and connection to long-term/post program community-based supports such as mental and physical health, ongoing recovery program, social and recreation programs, cultural supports and others. The Recovery Advocate will provide case management and support access to a variety of internal and external supports to meet individual clients’ unique needs.Employment Type: Full-Time, Fixed Term (Until March 2026)
Schedule: Monday to Friday 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

RFR #: 1598MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Major Duties:
  • Educate and empower clients in the recovery program to understand and achieve their rights and responsibilities, as participating members of society;
  • Liaise with internal and external resources that will help clients increase their assets. This includes maintaining existing partnerships as well as developing new partnerships;
  • In regards to clients who have a Caseworker, compliment the work the Caseworkers by acting as a consultant and liaison for issues that require client access to external resources;
  • In regards to clients who do not have a Caseworker, refer these clients directly to internal and external resources;
  • Advocate for clients as needed both to access resources within and outside the organization;
  • Ensure clients have accessed external resources by completing follow up with clients and agencies;
  • Support facilitation of programming as necessary;
  • Provide crisis intervention, as necessary;
  • Provide input into program evaluation upon request;
  • Required to abide by all Health & Safety protocols including completing a report for all incidents that occur, including near misses, in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
Administrative Duties
  • Build a comprehensive library and knowledge base on community resources;
  • Share and disseminate community resource information;
  • Track assigned clients’ progress with external resources;
  • Communicate relevant information to Caseworker about interactions with clients and observed behavior;
  • Document client interactions, client referrals and client progress on AVA EMR;
  • Track statistics and prepare reports, as required;
  • Attend meetings and training, as assigned;
  • Serve on internal and external committees, as requested;
  • Provide input into the development of policies and procedures for designated programs;
  • Keep clients’ records and information confidential, updated and secure.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • BSW or Bachelor in Psychology or equivalent
  • Three to five years of related working experience
  • Competent in use of MS Office
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent administrative, time management and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated and ability to work independently
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • This position is primarily an office position.
  • Time more than regular working hours may be required on occasion.
  • Local travel to various Mustard Seed sites and external agencies will be required
  • Employees are to be aware that many of our clients may experience difficulties or impairment at times, which could result in them uttering threats, discriminatory statements, and other insults at your person. This may in a raised voice, or in seeing unpredictable behaviour up to and including the possibility of them becoming aggressive.
  • Training on how to respond is provided, but this is to be considered typical working conditions. Many of our clients are unaware of the impact of these comments.
