- Maintain all firefighter training equipment, facilities, and vehicles in a state of good repair.
- Proactively identify and correct any issues or deficiencies related to training equipment, facilities, or resources.
- Ensure equipment and consumable supplies inventories are adequate and maintained.
- Procure training related supplies and equipment in accordance with HRM policy.
- Maintain and operate a propane fueled fire training simulator and other training props in accordance with manufacturer instructions.
- Operate a forklift and any other assigned vehicle to move equipment and training props.
- Complete regular (i.e., daily, weekly & monthly) maintenance inspections of all facilities, any assigned vehicles and equipment and submit inspection checklists to the Division Captain.
- Complete monthly safety inspections of all training facilities and submit reports to the Safety Division.
- Ensure all vehicles receive required preventative maintenance including oil changes, tire changes and MVIs.
- Pick up and deliver training equipment and supplies to training sites.
- Operate Class 5 and Class 3 vehicles.
- Complete routine light cleaning tasks such as garbage disposal, yard clean-up, washing vehicles, sweeping, and mopping floors.
- Complete light maintenance tasks such as painting, mowing, trimming shrubs and weeds.
- Complete light maintenance of small engines.
- Create, store, and maintain electronic records related to assets such as vehicle equipment manifests, inspection reports and inventory lists using MS Word and MS Excel.
- Monitor facility schedules and appointments using MS Outlook and maintain a personal calendar that ensures all work-related appointments and periods of approved leave are recorded.
- Other duties assigned as appropriate to the function and responsibilities of the position.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Nova Scotia Class 3 driver's license with air brake endorsement.
- Experience and ability to use hand and power tools.
- Experience as a structural firefighter.
- Certified to operate a forklift is an asset.
- Suitable combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of the HRFE organizational structure.
- Knowledge of and experience with occupational health and safety applicable to the fire service work environment.
- Knowledge of and experience in current methods, techniques and procedures required to safely operate fire service equipment and apparatus.
- Knowledge of department rules, regulations, standard operating guidelines, procedures, policies and applicable Municipal and Provincial Codes, Acts, Regulations, Administrative Orders and Municipal Bylaws.
- Knowledge of information management and record keeping.
- Knowledge of Window based software applications, specifically Microsoft Office and excel.
