This is a non-exempt position; any overtime hours worked will be remunerated based on provincial employment regulations. Under the supervision of the Operations Support Manager, the candidate is responsible for completing operations maintenance and surveillance monitoring tasks for earthen structures at active mine sites and civil earthwork projects. This position will work independently in the field with support from their functional manager and Project Manager.This is primarily a field-based position which may include some office rotations. Work schedules will be based on project specific requirements and will require frequent rotations of 12-hour shifts (day/night), as well as travel to remote field locations including Northern Canada. Travel hours and expenses incurred while travelling to and from the project will only be covered from approved locations (Calgary, Vancouver, Saskatoon and Edmonton).Your Key ResponsibilitiesParticipating in and following site-specific Health Safety Security Environment (HSSE) policies with the goal of achieving zero workplace incidents and the promotion of a safe work environment for allParticipating in daily tailgate meetingsIdentifying and reporting hazards and unsafe conditions and seeking to improve safety with reference to known policies and proceduresMonitoring geotechnical parameters to provide quality control in accordance with design and sampling/testing specificationsCompleting advanced soil sampling and compaction testing using a portable nuclear gaugeInterpreting design and IFC drawings, as well as material and construction specificationsStoring, transporting and maintaining nuclear densometersReporting on technical construction monitoring observations and results and providing guidance during constructionAdhering to quality control, documentation, and data management proceduresContributing to standardized procedures and policies, as well as the identification and execution of shared goals and objectivesTroubleshooting technical issues in the field to consistently deliver high quality resultsOperating light vehicles (4x4 pickups) and/or all-terrain vehicles to gain access to construction areasIdentifying and engaging with key stakeholders to gather informationYour Capabilities and CredentialsWorking knowledge of the Microsoft office suite of programsValid Class 5 Drivers License with current Driver’s AbstractMust have Standard First Aid Level C with AED, CSTS, and H2S AliveWorking knowledge of geotechnical material testing equipment and soil samplingAbility to develop an understanding of radiation safety, policies and proceduresAbility to work in all weather conditions, including the Canadian Arctic, and subject to extreme cold and heat. This position may include exposure to wildlife, travel delays, and prolonged hours of darkness during the winter monthsThis position requires pre-access drug and alcohol testing and a criminal background checkAdditional qualification requirements may arise depending on specific project(s)Education and ExperienceA minimum Post-Secondary Technical Diploma in geological, geotechnical, civil or mining disciplinesA minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience including mine driving is considered an assetProfessional designation with either the Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET) or the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC (ASTTBC) is considered an assetPrior experience working in Northern Canada is considered an assetFamiliarity with construction equipment would be an assetAbility to read design drawings would be considered an assetAdditional qualification requirements may arise depending on specific project(s)Physical Requirements
  • This position has minimum physical requirements as outlined in the Stantec Field Physical Demands Assessment. A fit for duty assessment is required prior to deployment in the field and is a condition of employment.   • Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$72,300.00 - $104,800.00 Annually
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
