We are looking for people ready to share, build, and grow with our company.Reporting to the Training Superintendent, the Inuit Success Facilitator is responsible for being a continual presence at the mine, reaching out to and supporting Inuit employees. The Inuit Success Facilitator provides continual hands on support to Inuit Success initiatives within Baffinland. The Facilitator utilizes communication skills and tools to maintain a healthy contact with Inuit employees on site and in their home communities. The Facilitator increases ongoing communication with Inuit employees and is an advocate for Inuit culture and employee needs at the mine.Main Accountabilities
  • Provide guidance and support to Inuit employees working at site and working with their supervisors or other relevant departmental personnel (HR/LR, Environmental, Safety, etc.) to resolve issues.
  • Take a leadership role working to support operations management in developing and implementing a plan for continued Inuit employment, training and success, i.e. Career Development Plans.
  • As the subject matter expert on Inuit Success, work and communicate with management to resolve issues or concerns.
  • Encourage Inuit employees in achieving greater participation at the mine through participation on committees, working groups, social activities, mine rescue teams, and consultations.
  • Provide assistance to the Recruitment teams in advancing individuals in the Q-Step programs (such as Work Ready Program) into roles at site by maintaining an understanding of the programs and who is participating.
  • Assist in the onboarding of new Inuit employees and support them throughout their training as required.
  • Assist Inuit employees by helping them understand policies and procedures and communications and ensure they are aware of new company information and news, communicating upcoming training and education opportunities and encourage their participation, and talking to them about choices, home life, opportunities and planning for success.
  • Build a relationship with Inuit employees by being present at meal hours and in recreation areas in order to speak with them, i.e. regular visits to the Country Kitchen at Sailivik.
  • Work with Inuit youth to gain a better understanding on future career opportunities and work with them to assist with their career development.
  • Support Inuit involved with the apprenticeship program through continual communications and being available at their work sites to check on how they are doing and to provide support.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of Inuit training programs such as the Inuit Leadership Development Program, Inuit Cultural Engagement and Cultural Intelligence training.
  • Provide examples of successes and accomplishments realized by Inuit employees to the Training Superintendent so that this can be shared with Operations Leadership.
  • Perform administrative duties such as scheduling interactions, logging all assistance provided to employees, Supervisors, Managers, and producing weekly reports for the Training Superintendent.

  • Ability to speak, read and write in Inuktitut and English, are an asset.
  • Digital Literacy skills: Knowledge of digital tools and technology. Proficient with standard office software such as Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to demonstrate being a role model in their community and at site.
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness skills: Ability to influence the views and behaviour of others through persuasion and encouragement and manage conflict or other sensitive issues tactfully and effectively. Ability to adapt behaviour to a wide range of people.
  • Nunavut Land Claims Beneficiary.
  • Ability to provide mentorship to Inuit employees.
  • Flexible with time at work to ensure the ability to meet people on both day and night shift and at both the port and mine facility.
  • High School diploma is an asset
  • Experience in promoting a culture of safety.
  • Experience in promoting Inuit culture.
