Job DescriptionOur client is seeking an experienced Property Accountant to provide full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of properties engaged in residential and commercial property leasing and rentals. This permanent role, based in Dartmouth, NS, requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to support the organization’s business objectives through accurate financial management and reporting.Key Responsibilities for the Job:
  • Maintain accurate and timely bank reconciliations
  • Track and follow up on accounts receivable collections (rent roll, parking, storage, and other revenue streams)
  • Manage accounts payable, including invoice tracking, processing, and AP batch payments
  • Prepare and file HST returns
  • Maintain and reconcile tenant security deposits
  • Prepare and maintain cash flow forecasts to support effective cash management
  • Collaborate with property managers to prepare monthly P&L budgets and provide variance analysis
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and track common area maintenance (CAM) expenses
  • Maintain amortization schedules and records for fixed assets, debt financing, and prepaid expenses
  • Provide supporting information for year-end financial statements and tax filings
Experience & Attributes for Success:
  • Post-secondary education in accounting or other relevant program
  • 3–5+ years of experience in a full-cycle residential and commercial rental property accounting role
  • Knowledge of Simply Accounting and/or Yardi is a definite asset
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Solid team player with demonstrated capacity for collaboration and team building
  • Proven ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and troubleshoot challenges with reasonable autonomy
