- Prepare comprehensive roadway and transportation engineering designs, including road alignments, cross-sections, active transportation facilities, grading models, drainage designs, storm sewer network layouts, quantity estimates, cost estimates, project documentation, and technical specifications.
- Complete detailed roadway engineering design from start to finish, including preparation of concept alignments, geometric layouts, and CAD base alignment plans for urban and rural highway interchanges and intersections.
- Coordinate design work with multidisciplinary teams, including structural, traffic, pavement, environmental, stormwater management, electrical, and other relevant disciplines to ensure integrated and constructible solutions.
- Assist the Project Manager with day-to-day project coordination, including tracking progress, managing design inputs, and aligning deliverables with project schedules and budgets.
- Support engagement and negotiation with external project stakeholders and clients, contributing technical input and helping to build strong, collaborative relationships.
- Prepare work plans and schedules in coordination with project managers and other disciplines, ensuring that design tasks, milestones, and resources are clearly defined and achievable.
- Assist in identifying and pursuing new project opportunities, including contributing to proposal preparation through technical content generation, schedule development, and fee estimate support.
- Apply relevant design standards and guidelines, including TAC Geometric Design Guide and applicable provincial and municipal standards, to ensure compliant and safe roadway designs.
- Contribute to transportation planning, traffic management, and site planning tasks as needed to support a wide range of municipal and provincial transportation projects.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues in a consulting environment, providing and receiving design mentorship, and supporting a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
- Work independently on assigned tasks while actively contributing to team-based project delivery and cross-functional coordination.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in highway and/or municipal roadway design engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Previous experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design, including concept development, detailed design, and preparation of construction documentation.
- Proficiency with Civil 3D and/or OpenRoads Designer for roadway and corridor design.
- Familiarity with road design practices and application of design standards, including the TAC Geometric Design Guide and various provincial and municipal standards.
- Experience preparing contract documents and drawings for transportation infrastructure projects.
- Experience with freeway and interchange design as well as municipal roadway design.
- Experience engaging and negotiating with external project stakeholders and clients.
- Experience working with municipal and provincial clients in Ontario (e.g., MTO and regional or local municipalities).
- Strong conceptual, organizational, and problem-solving skills applied to complex transportation design challenges.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, including the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and coordinate with multiple project participants.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team to meet project deadlines and quality expectations.
- EIT designation, engineering training, or active pursuit of professional engineering licensure.
- Engineering consulting experience, particularly in transportation and municipal infrastructure projects.
- Experience with stormwater and drainage design, including coordination with stormwater management requirements.
- Experience with municipal and provincial projects such as bus rapid transit, grade separations, and complex roadway infrastructure.
- Experience in transportation planning, traffic management, and site planning to support integrated project solutions.
- Experience working with or for municipalities and provincial agencies, including familiarity with their processes and expectations.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to proposal development, including technical content, schedules, and fee estimates.
- Strong interpersonal skills to support stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and client relationship building.
