Reporting to the Business Support Supervisor, this position requires in-depth knowledge of the SAP Plant Maintenance operating system and its interrelationship with other models of Enterprise Commons to ensure accurate reporting and financial management.As the Financial Analyst for Facility Maintenance Services, you will work closely with Operations to ensure financial information is correct within the SAP Plant Maintenance System for reporting purposes and audit for financial accuracy. This promises to be an exciting and challenging role; you’ll be on the leading edge of supporting the transition to a new system!
  • Prepares ad hoc financial and operational reports for budget, variance, and management decisions
  • Develops and manages performance measures to evaluate section service delivery
  • Conducts cost analysis for maintenance by facility and operations using standard costs and operational data
  • Analyzes historical financial data to prepare reports, financial models, and forecasts
  • Contributes to contract vs. in-house cost and performance analysis, including justifications
  • Assists in providing detailed variance explanations to the Finance department
  • Prepares annual charge-out rates for job costing and supports job estimate generation
  • Updates activity rates in SAP and supports overhead rate calculations
  • Supports month-end and year-end operational activities like work order corrections and accruals
  • Performs audits on work order data consistency, settlement rules, and conducts related training
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate Degree (or equivalent or higher) in a commerce, accounting, or finance-related discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible accounting/financial experience in data management, financial and statistical analysis, and statistical reporting
Assets:
  • CPA designation
  • Experience with Financial and Supply Chain modules
Skills required for success:
  • Considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), requirements, and practices
  • Knowledge and expertise in the application of accounting or financial systems that maintain financial data and reporting
  • Knowledge of cash, capital, and operating budget, procurement, supply chain and project management processes
  • Knowledge of financial and auditing controls and concepts
  • General knowledge of building and facility maintenance lines of business
  • Proficient knowledge of SAP functional competencies in Plant Maintenance and interactions with other modules of Enterprise Commons
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem solving skills to develop action plans and resolve complex operational or business issues or concerns and to incorporate process improvements
  • Strong ability to lead projects successfully
  • Ability to review, analyze, and provide recommendations on financial processes
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and provide consultation to support a diverse range of managers and staff with various levels of expertise in the subject matter
  • Ability to build/maintain relationships and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Ability to plan workflow, coordinate, and lead others
  • Ability to develop and maintain financial models using advanced spreadsheet skills, including knowledge and skill in formulas and converting data to graphs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, including the ability to plan and organize work tasks to meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail to ensure accurate data tracking, recording, analyzing, and interpretation to resolve complex financial problems
  • Expertise in Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Docs, etc) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc), and the ability to learn and adapt to evolving technology

Conditions of Employment:
  • Hire is dependent on Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent)
  • Applicants may be required to arrange their own transportation for use on City business, and where appropriate will be reimbursed in accordance with City of Edmonton policy
Work Environment:
  • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance
