Type: ReplacementAn exciting opportunity as a Regular Full-Time, Therapist exists within the General Psychiatry Program and the Substance Use Service Program. The General Psychiatry is a mental health service that provides assessment and time-limited treatment to patients of WCH with broad mental health concerns that may be secondary to or complicated by a concurrent medical illness. In addition, the General Psychiatry Program provides assessments and short-term treatment to patients with concurrent disorders as well as offers care and psychotherapy groups within addiction psychiatry.The Substance Use Service (SUS) (Addiction Medicine program) offers a holistic, trauma-informed approach to the assessment and support of people who use alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methamphetamines, cannabis or other substances.Summary of duties, but not limited to:Patient Assessment:
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments with an awareness of and comfort level in assessing patients who present with suicidality, self-harm, or who pose other safety risks.
  • Use of standardized tools for assessment
  • Formulate assessment findings and determine the suitability for appropriate resources
  • Consult with team members and participate in team discussion regarding assessment and treatment, when required.
Care Planning:
  • Develop an intervention plan in collaboration with patients, families, significant others and the interdisciplinary team, based on identified needs.
  • Document intervention plan according to specific hospital and professional standards.
Interventions:
  • Provide individual and group therapy/treatment using the principles of women’s centred health care and draw upon recognized psychotherapy models including cognitive behavioural therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, mindfulness-based therapy, trauma-informed therapy, brief psychodynamic therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy and acceptance commitment therapy, and crisis management. Additional Addiction specific psychotherapy skills are required to support co-facilitating Seeking Safety as well as Early Recovery groups.
  • Consult and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, as required.
Education, Professional Development, and Quality Improvement:
  • Provides in-service education internally and to our community partners
  • Supervises health disciplines students
  • Participates in professional development
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to the development of group therapy programming and psychoeducational materials for the Substance Use Service

  • Current registration in good standing with a regulated professional college (Social Worker, Psychotherapist or Occupational Therapist) required
  • Master degree in a mental-health related discipline required
  • Three years of clinical mental health experience required, preferably in a hospital setting
  • Experience delivering a mental health day treatment program
  • Demonstrated experience with a variety of psychotherapies including cognitive behavioural therapy, interpersonal psychotherapy, mindfulness-based therapy, trauma-informed therapy, brief psychodynamic therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy and acceptance commitment therapy, and crisis management
  • Experience in individual and group therapy to patients with addictions and concurrent psychiatric conditions
  • Comfort and experience in participating in peer supervision
  • Knowledge of appropriate community resources related to this patient population
  • Ability to work independently and manage complex and high-acuity mental health patients
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Exceptional written/verbal communication skills
  • Proven attendance and punctuality.
  • Professional behaviour and communication that meets the standards of the professional regulatory college or association, as applicable, and the standards of Women’s College Hospital
