
Intermediate Environmental Scientist

- Diploma or higher education related to environmental sciences, geology, biology or other related discipline
- Currently possess or qualified to obtain a professional designation (or in training designation) applicable for conducting professional sign-off in Saskatchewan and / or Alberta.
- Minimum 3 to 6 years of environmental work experience with experience in:
- Phase I and Phase II program execution
- Remediation
- Reclamation
- Groundwater monitoring
- Spill response
- Vegetation management/reclamation site inspections
- Detailed Site Assessments
- Acknowledgement of Reclamation applications & programs
- Willingness to work in the field for extended periods of time; willingness to travel within Western Canada as required.
- Excellent communication and technical reporting skills.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Working knowledge of contaminated sites and reclamation regulations in Alberta and / or Saskatchewan.
- Hydrogeology background is considered a strong asset.
- Experience with developing assessment, remediation and/or reclamation work plans and cost estimates is an asset.
- Spend up to 50-75% of work hours supervising and executing technical field activities on environmental projects (Field hours could reach 80-90% during busy field season) such as:
- Phase 1 ESA, Phase 2 ESA, remediation and reclamation
- Groundwater monitoring
- Vegetation Management/Reclamation site inspections
- Detailed Site Assessment
- Support development of work plans and cost estimates, and completion of reporting for Phase 1, Phase 2, remediation and reclamation projects to support program execution and in alignment with your areas of competence.
- Oversee all required ground disturbance and safety requirements to execute earthworks projects for upstream oil and gas sites.
- Responsible for project coordination, cost control and project scoping to ensure effectively versatile solutions are developed to meet client’s regulatory needs and budgets.
- Responsible for both field and office execution of environmental projects, ensuring quality communication is provided through projects with client, third party contractors, Vertex management and other stakeholders (landowner, tenant, etc.) as they apply.
- Active stewardship of Vertex and client safety programs is expected.
- Mentor and coach junior environmental staff.
- This position will be based out of either Regina, Saskatoon, Weyburn or Lloydminster.
