- Assembling and organizing information for legal documents
- Drafting various types of legal documents and various template commercial agreements, including supply agreements, service agreements, amending agreements, renewals and subleases according to general instructions for the lawyer's review
- Managing files from opening to the conclusion of the transaction
- Performing a variety of duties in the area of corporate, commercial and regulatory laws
- Co-ordinating and managing files in connection with transactional work across Canada
- Working on varying complexities related to transactions
- Exercising initiative and judgment in assisting lawyers with administrative detail on files
- Under direction from lawyers, attend to filing or arranging for the filing of legal documents
- Process cheque requests and wire transfers
- Assisting with overall file maintenance for lawyers
- Interacting with other departments to obtain information and instructions to help complete a transaction
- Reviewing files to confirm key timelines/deadline dates and updating these timelines and/or deadlines into legal diary systems
- Preparing memorandums to various departments within the business advising of any new changes to commercial agreements, including supply agreements and service agreements
- Fielding, managing, and responding to general inquiries from the business
- Assisting with general corporate legal work from the business
- Researching law and Acts in order to update legal precedents and documentation
- Registering, renewing, discharging, and amending security under the PPSA and RDPRM in all provinces
- Reviewing files and responding to inquiries that do not require a legal opinion
- 4+ years of relevant experience working as a law clerk in a law firm or an in-house environment.
- Graduated from certified Law Clerk program or acceptable experience in Quebec and English Canada Provinces
- Advanced knowledge or corporate statutes and corporate procedures
- Extensive experience in transactional work in areas of corporate law
- Extensive experience in drafting legal agreements
- Bilingual written and spoken in French and English (The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with peers in other provinces to develop procedures and processes to be implemented nationally. She will also have to interact regularly with her peers in other provinces, as well as provide support to Sobeys employees across Canada)
