6-month contract Platform Engineer role.
Working with the enterprise cloud foundations team.
Retail client located in downtown Vancouver hybrid work, 4 days a week in office.

What & Why:As a result of investment in AI our client is looking to add a Platform Engineer to their team for a 6-month contract to start. In this role you will be building the AI-ready cloud infrastructure that enables internal engineering teams to ship faster and safer. You'll design and operate AWS/Azure landing zones, create reusable Terraform modules, and implement policy-as-code guardrails (OPA/Conftest/Azure Policies) that protect the organization while preserving developer velocity. Beyond traditional platform work, you'll enable integration patterns for AI agent tool use, including function calling, API mediation, guardrails for least-privileged access, secrets handling, and PII protection, with observability, cost controls, and automated rollback mechanisms. Working hands-on with GitLab CI/CD pipelines, serverless architectures, and event-driven systems, you'll participate in on-call rotations, drive SRE practices (SLOs, error budgets, chaos engineering), apply FinOps optimization, and collaborate with security, platform, and product teams to translate application needs into backlog items and platform features.Who:This client is one of the most recognizable Canadian brands, a true Vancouver success story who has expanded globally. They are located close to rapid transit in newly renovated offices in downtown Vancouver and have a primarily in office work environment with 4 days a week in office.You:You will bring the following education, skills and experience to the role:

3-5 years in cloud/platform engineering or SRE, working with distributed systems in AWS and/or Azure, with hands-on experience building landing zones, reference architectures, and secure self-service provisioning platforms.
Proficiency with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code, comfortable designing reusable modules, pipelines, and implementing policy-as-code guardrails to balance security with developer velocity.
Working knowledge of GitLab CI/CD (or similar), containerization, orchestration, and coding proficiency in Python or Go with ability to integrate REST/JSON APIs.
Familiarity with serverless patterns, event-driven architectures, and exposure to AI/LLM/agent development concepts including prompting, tool use/function calling, and RAG (experience with observability stacks like Splunk/Datadog and FinOps practices a plus).
