- Supervise and mentor the health office staff and department functions, while fostering a positive work environment.
- Provide care of students and daycare children by managing and monitoring health needs.
- Perform medical procedures as necessary.
- Maintain health and medical documentation and records on the school's electronic medial record system.
- Monitor compliance of the school health program with federal, state, and local laws, regulations and policies.
- Coordinate health, wellness, and safety activities.
- Provide training and professional development on a variety of health-related subjects for the purpose of acting as a resource to students, teachers, athletics, and administration.
- Support the implementation of the school nursing program and other curriculums designed to promote the wellness and development of students.
- Identify, recommend, and refer students that require external school support services.
- Assist in the development and implementation of programs and services intended to build a healthy school climate for all members of the school community.
- Serve as a resource by providing education and guidance on relevant health and wellness topics to students, parents, and faculty.
- Assess situations involving students' safety and other health related issues.
- Communicate and collaborate with parents on health needs of students.
- Respond to crises when appropriate.
- Manage resources efficiently.
- Work collaboratively and effectively with the nursing team, employees, parents, and students.
- Prepare and manage the budget for the school health office.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Strong knowledge of medical disorders and treatment and basic emergency care.
- Ability to understand developmental levels of students.
- Strong assessment skills across age and developmental spectrum.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services.
- Ability to work limited summer hours.
- Knowledge of the USM culture and community served.
- Strong interpersonal skills; capable of using tact and diplomacy in dealing with others.
- High level of maturity, confidentiality, assertiveness, and independence.
- Capable of competently operating technology.
- Bachelors of science degree in nursing.
- State of WI registered nurse license.
- CPR/AED certification.
- 8-10 years related experience in child health care or school nursing.
