Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Junior Structural Designer to join our Project Delivery Group (PDG) in Sudbury.At Hatch, the Junior Structural Designer is part of an engineering team providing engineering services to large and small projects. The role is responsible for the production of structural 3D models and 2D drawings in accordance with project requirements under the supervision of the Lead Structural Engineer and Senior Structural Designers. The successful candidate will participate in a wide range of projects covering structures such as building foundations, equipment foundations, building steel framing, retaining walls, culvert structures, liquid retaining structures, pump stations, marine and intake structures. Activities include structural steel and concrete modeling and drafting for both front end planning and the detailed engineering phase for multi-discipline projects.What Will a Career at Hatch Offer You:You will:

  • Assist the Lead Structural Designers and Engineers with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost, and schedule
  • Produce and maintain technical and engineering drawings using 2D and 3D CAD software as required
  • Perform conceptual layout work
  • Develop design details
  • Check drawings prior to release
  • Ensure coordination with designers and engineers within the discipline and with other disciplines
  • Perform clash detection of models with other discipline models
  • Participation in formal engineering review processes
  • Verify onsite condition and dimensions relating to existing facilities
  • Construction supervision dependent upon project demands
  • Incorporate safety in design
You bring to the role:
  • Recently graduated with a Diploma or equivalent in Civil/Structural Technology
  • Proficient in the use of 2D and 3D structural designer software packages
  • Previous internship or co-op experience is preferred
  • Ability to learn quickly and to take on new challenges
  • Have demonstrated technical aptitude
  • Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Shows critical and creative thinking and problem solving, and brings forward solutions for our clients' toughest challenges
