- Manage and respond to team member payroll inbox inquiries in a prompt and professional manner, providing guidance on payroll policies and procedures
- Maintain current and updated payroll documentation, workflow and work procedures.
- Implement payroll best practices and enhance efficiency
- Keep up-to-date regarding legislation of the various courts for garnishees, educate and counsel team members of legislative standards and answer any inquiries related to such.
- Responsible for the payroll process and the maintenance of payroll information, such as new hires, terminations, leave of absence, benefit deductions, garnishments etc., gross to net calculation, audit and balancing
- Manage end-to-end Canadian and U.S. payroll cycles, including off-cycle
- Review payroll reports and audit outputs to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Support payroll-related reporting and provide data insights to internal stakeholders as needed
- Assist with year-end activities, audits, and regulatory reporting
- Train and lead Payroll teams on day-to-day tasks; ensure cross-training
- Support cost savings initiatives and operating efficiencies within the payroll department
- Liaise with service providers, research and resolve problems
- Calculate, enter and monitor programs such as, RRSP/DPSP, Taxable Benefits, EPSP, etc. in collaboration with other members of the People and Culture team.
- Actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) including reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply and promote the Company Safety Policy
- Post-secondary diploma or equivalent work experience
- 5-7 years of work experience in payroll processing
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation
- Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation or in progress
- Avanti Software experience an asset
- Detail oriented and a proven self-starter
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a high volume environment
- Able to work autonomously while possessing strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain a high degree of discretion, diplomacy and confidentiality
- Strong computer skills, experience using Google and/or Microsoft Office products
