Applicants are encouraged to self-identify on their electronic application.Under the direction of the Manager of Communications & Public Relations the Digital Communications Specialist supports the organization's online presence by providing professional digital communication services to Halifax Regional Police.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Enhance visual storytelling at Halifax Regional Police by developing, implementing, and managing digital communication strategies that align with organizational objectives.
  • Responsible for the organization's online and social media presence, including content on the organization's website, Intranet and social media channels.
  • Assist in the implementation of internal and external communications during high risk and crisis situations, including ongoing police operations, investigations and/or public safety matters which often involve the utmost confidentiality.
  • Develop engaging and creative digital content for internal and external stakeholders through the use of photos, videos, graphics, and infographics.
  • Monitor and evaluate social media performance to identify trends, insights, and opportunities.
  • Develop analytics and provide regular reporting of results.
  • Assist with communications planning for events, news conferences and corporate initiatives.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with senior leaders, officers, and staff at Halifax Regional Police and Halifax Regional Municipality, as well as other regional police forces.
  • Coordinate annual communications project calendar and execute projects focused on digital communications.
  • Ensures the integrity of Halifax Regional Police's brand, in consultation with Halifax Regional Municipality brand guidelines. Oversee the design of brochures, posters, certificates, newsletters, programs, charts and digital graphics.
  • Maintain a photo library.
  • Provide advice and guidance on all digital communications efforts.
  • Other public relations duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
  • University degree in Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Five years of experience working in communications or marketing.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Through knowledge of social media platforms and tools including Facebook, X, Bluesky, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
  • Experience in graphic design, visual storytelling and proficiency in using the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Through knowledge of standard office software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams.
  • Demonstrated experience of working with Drupal and internet/intranet software.
  • Professional Knowledge of public relations, internal and external communications.
  • Excellent ability to manage multi-focused priorities, prioritize workflow and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience working with senior leaders.
  • Strong understanding of municipal government.
Security Clearance Requirements: Before an offer is made the top candidate will be required to complete the background & security clearance process. This is an NSGEU Local 222 bargaining unit position.HOURS OF WORK: Hours of work are Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., in an office environment.SALARY: Level 9 NSGEU Local 222, $42.50 hourly.WORK LOCATION: 1975 Gottingen St., Halifax Nova Scotia, B3J 2H1.
