- Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Not for Profit Accounting Standards, Financial Software and Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Current valid driver's licence and own reliable transportation to be used in the course of employment.
- Knowledge and familiarity with computer operations and software.
- Prepare, monitor and review annual budgets in collaboration with department Manager and Directors.
- Prepare budgets for submission to funders.
- Prepare fiscal projections in collaboration with department Managers and Directors.
- Assist or complete, when required, in the preparation of financial statements for the Board (e.g. Board Reports, AGM reports, etc).
- Prepare and analyse a variety of reports in collaboration with Finance Manager for submission to funders.
- Maintain the integrity of the financial data by providing guidance and direction to ensure accuracy.
- Prepare financial analysis, including evaluating proposed operational changes, trends, or significant variances to assess financial implications and provide consultation and advice to Managers and Directors.
- Review monthly balance sheet reconciliations and provide technical direction, training and guidance.
- Prepare data analysis and complete tasks, as assigned, for year-end audit.
- Research best practices and identify opportunities for the continuous enhancement of financial reliability and reporting.
- Assist in or prime the implementation of new processes and/or systems including testing, developing work plans, completing process documentation and evaluating outcomes.
- Assist in the revision and/or development of agency standards of practice.
- Maintain an orderly and current filing system (manual and mechanized).
- Other projects, processes or duties as assigned.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with other Agency programs and departments to facilitate continuous development of effective financial supports.
- Provide orientation in budget preparation and monitoring for agency Directors, Managers and Supervisors.
- Review and approve the work of the financial services assistants prior to posting and/or uploading to financial systems.
- Ensuring accuracy and compliance with legislated accounting standards, collective agreements, agency policies and standards of practices; Provide backup for Finance Manager and other financial duties as required.
