
Quality Assurance Specialist

- Reporting to the QA Manager, you will work closely with the plant/QA teams to develop and implement quality and food safety programs.
- This involves regularly reviewing the current food safety programs to ensure they meet both regulatory (CFIA, FDA, USDA, Exports) and FSSC 22000 standards and requirements.
- You will lead the facility's food safety team.
- In this role, you will coordinate internal or external audits with 3rd parties, customers, or regulatory agencies.
- You will oversee inspections and tests conducted by the Quality Technicians. This involves setting test schedules, providing guidance, ensuring testing protocols are followed, and supporting development of the Technicians.
- You are responsible for reviewing test findings and analyzing deviations from specifications to determine possible causes.
- Lead the internal audit process (GMP, PRP, and HACCP) to ensure best quality practices are maintained within the operations.
- Investigate and respond to consumer quality complaints.
- Identifies quality and food safety non-conforming trends, identifies root causes, supports corrective actions, and implements process improvements by collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Leads the employee training program on GMP, quality, and food safety.
- Provides leadership, coaching, and education as it relates to the development of our food safety culture.
- You will support the specification process for new or alternate raw materials and suppliers.
- Conduct ingredient risk assessments to ensure appropriate food safety measures are in place both at the supplier and plant level.
- Supports the achievement of set quality and food safety objectives
- Supports QA Technicians as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Quality Assurance, or a related field
- 3-5 years of experience in quality assurance within the Consumer Packaged Goods industry
- Strong knowledge of, HACCP, FSSC, FSMA and applying knowledge to conduct gap analysis, provide risk based thinking and conduct hazard analysis.
- Familiarity with quality control methodologies and process improvement techniques
- Knowledge of ingredients and specification related to food safety and quality
- Proficiency in statistical analysis software, e.g. excel and experience working with SAP or similar systems.
- Ability to make informed decisions in a timely manner within a fast pace environment
- Can work independently as well as in a team environment

- Flexibility is required to complete certain tasks which requires an onsite inspection in the night or early morning 6 or 7 am
