JOB PURPOSEReporting to the Manager, Product Development, the Brakes Engineer is accountable for the design, engineering, and development of the Brakes product line. In this role, the Brakes Engineer will also make recommendations and lend their experience to the Engineering team, identifying key improvements, as well as failure modes of parts in warranty.KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESProduct Research and Development:
- Develop detailed specifications, drawings, testing, and validation plans for brake pads and brake system components.
- Assess new technologies/designs and make recommendations based on scientific principles and test data for the brake product line
- Execute product benchmarking for new product development or brake components
- Execute product benchmarking for new product development of brake component.
- Develop and continue to expand brake product line specifications
- Review design changes to determine impact to functional performance and compliance with internal engineering standards.
- Collaborate with suppliers on development of new brake friction formulations
- Investigate new approaches to differentiate products internally and externally.
- Consult and evaluate suppliers on the manufacturing processes and used in the production of brakes pads and brake system components.
- Prepare and update DFMEA, DVP and engineering standards
- Perform root cause analysis to address and correct current product issues
- Re-evaluate products and identify opportunities for improvement
- Review and compile testing data to quantify improvements that have been made to various design
- On-boarding and training new team members
- Review identified errors and mentor or coach team
- Document and upgrade current engineering specifications and standards
- Contribute to Mevotech engineering standards and process improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with Marketing & Sales on the creation of marking/sales content and presentations
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Applied Science
- 7-9 years’ work experience in an Automotive engineering environment specializing in Brake
- Systems and Friction
- Extensive knowledge in Autodesk Mechanical, Autodesk Inventor, or similar 2D & 3D CAD systems
- Knowledge of GD&T as per ASME Y14.5
- Knowledge and experience in NVH and Tribology
- Knowledge of SAE Brake Compliance Testing & other automotive industry standard brakedynamometer testing
- Experience in developing product DFMEAs & DVP&Rs
- Knowledge of Mechanical Testing (Hardness, Metallurgy, Tensile)
- Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) experience is an asset.
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and/or NVH simulation experience is an asset.
- Demonstrated technical ability to initiate, direct and control projects.
- Experience in evaluating & auditing suppliers is an asset.
- Able to interpret and create technical drawings.
- Knowledge of MS Office is required.
- Analytical, problem solving, and project management skills.
- Proven ability to build effective business relationships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
