- Perform carpentry construction, repair, renovation, and maintenance work on municipal buildings, structures, and infrastructure (including docks, ramps, staircases, bridges, and related assets).
- Complete assigned work in accordance with drawings, specifications, work plans, and applicable building codes and safety standards.
- Carry out routine maintenance, repairs, and construction tasks as assigned.
- Use tools, equipment, and materials safely and appropriately in the performance of duties.
- Participate in inspections and repairs under the technical guidance of the Carpenter 2 or direction of the Manager of Buildings.
- Follow established safe work procedures and WorkSafeBC requirements.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area, including proper use and care of tools and equipment.
- Maintain basic records and documentation related to completed work as required.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and other departments regarding assigned tasks.
- Work independently or as part of a team depending on operational requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Possession of a valid Interprovincial Red Seal Certificate of Qualification in Carpentry.
- A minimum of three (3) years of recent experience performing journeyperson-level carpentry and building maintenance work.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and building code requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to perform carpentry work safely, efficiently, and to an acceptable standard of quality.
- Ability to follow work plans, technical guidance, and established procedures.
- Good organizational skills and ability to complete assigned work within established timelines.
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and cooperatively as part of a team.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills to work cooperatively with colleagues and other departments.
- Basic computer skills and ability to use email and standard office software for communication and record keeping (Microsoft Office environment).
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence; satisfactory driver's abstract required.
- The position may be physically demanding; candidate must be able to successfully perform all duties associated with the position. A medical certificate attesting to suitability for this position may be required.
