- Develop and design gravity and lateral structural systems for mission-critical facilities, including foundations, steel and concrete superstructures, and wind- and seismic-resisting systems.
- Perform advanced structural analysis and design, including load determination and combinations (dead, live, wind, seismic, snow, equipment, and thermal loads), load path development, and load takedown.
- Conduct finite element analysis and advanced modelling for complex structural systems and atypical geometries.
- Design foundations and substructures, including shallow and deep foundations, slab-on-grade systems, and mat foundations, considering geotechnical constraints and bearing capacity.
- Address mission-critical structural requirements such as high equipment loads, vibration control, structural robustness and redundancy, and phased construction or expansion of live facilities.
- Prepare and review engineering calculations, technical reports, design criteria, schematic designs, and detailed construction documents.
- Act as Lead Structural Engineer and, where applicable, Engineer of Record, responsible for technical direction, code compliance, and overall design integrity.
- Review and approve calculations, models, and drawings prepared by other engineers to ensure quality, consistency, and adherence to standards.
- Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, contractors, and fabricators to ensure structural systems integrate seamlessly with building, mechanical, and process requirements.
- Utilise structural analysis, detailing, and BIM tools (e.g., RISA, ETABS, RAM, Robot, Tekla, SDS2, Revit, AutoCAD) for design, documentation, and interdisciplinary coordination.
- Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, and coordination meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Provide technical support during construction, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals and shop drawings, and performing site visits as required.
- Mentor and guide middle-level engineers, supporting their technical development and ensuring best practices are followed.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a structural specialisation.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in structural engineering design for building or industrial facilities, including experience with complex structural systems.
- Strong experience with structural analysis and design using finite element methods and advanced analysis software.
- High proficiency in structural design and analysis tools such as RISA (strongly preferred), ETABS, RAM, STAAD, Robot, Tekla, SDS2, Revit, and AutoCAD.
- Demonstrated expertise in structural calculations, including gravity and lateral systems, load combinations, vibration analysis, and foundation design.
- Deep knowledge of building codes and standards, including NBCC and relevant provincial codes, as well as familiarity with US codes such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI.
- Experience working with steel and reinforced concrete structures; experience with industrial or mission-critical facilities is a strong asset.
- Ability to evaluate and integrate geotechnical information into structural design, including bearing capacity and settlement considerations.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada or PE in the US - required; eligibility for or possession of a US PE license is considered a strong advantage.
- Proven ability to lead structural design efforts, provide technical oversight, and take responsibility for design quality and compliance.
- Strong coordination skills and experience working in multidisciplinary project teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel periodically to project and client sites across Canada and the United States, as required.
- A proactive, detail-oriented mindset with a strong sense of technical ownership and accountability.
