We are looking for a producer with a background in journalism and who has a strong understanding of journalism practices and ethics. We are looking for someone who understands podcast research, structuring, producing, writing, and editing. We are looking for someone who can produce a range of podcast genres, from our weekly podcasts ( and to a six-part series, like ones you’ll find at TVO Today podcasts .Much of the job will be work on our podcast content. But this is a multi-faceted role that includes possible work on our digital video content as well as some work related to our current affairs broadcast content.The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of podcast, YouTube, and social media platforms, with the ability to write and produce content tailored to each. They bring exceptional organizational skills, can manage logistics across multiple current and future projects, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.You love podcasts. You know the minute your favourites drop. And you never have enough time in the day to listen to all the podcasts on your subscription list. You binge listen. You adore audio storytelling, especially a well-crafted podcast with finely laid clips and actuality that flows seamlessly. You are a whiz at producing narrative audio and you aren’t afraid of tackling audio storytelling challenges. You’d love nothing more than to produce a podcast series (or series) with original thinking on ideas that matter – it could be anything from politics to affordability, to science and tech or culture – so long as it’s thoughtful, relevant and compelling, you’re in. You also consume a lot of current affairs coverage. You are up to date on major news events happening in Ontario, Canada, and around the world.   • Work with the podcast team and the Executive Producer, Digital on all aspects of TVO podcast series production from early-stage storyboarding to final mixing and editing
  • Participate in various levels of production of both in-house and acquired TVO podcasts series
  • Identify, develop, and shape concepts for new podcast episodes and series
  • Assist with tape gathering, scripting, structuring and editing episodes, and reviewing audio mixes
  • Support and guide hosts, reporters and production staff in the production process
  • Pitch and, if assigned, produce digital video content on current affairs and news-related topics
  • Have basic video editing skills
  • Manage production schedules and deadlines
  • Conduct and manage reporting and source interviews as required
  • Work with members of the TVO team to promote the podcast
  • Have skills on social media and can edit and produce shorts for YouTube and Insta related to our podcast and digital video content
What you will bring to TVO
  • Three or more years' experience in podcast production, knowledge of field production and studio production techniques required
  • Experience working in non-fiction storytelling
  • Ability to structure compelling and unique audio stories
  • Demonstrated strong independent news judgement and an understanding of journalism standards
  • High standards of accuracy and fairness; strong analytical, research, and investigative skills preferred
  • Experience scripting, interviewing, story development and host collaboration
  • Experience with sound design
  • Ability to produce, write scripts, and edit short explainer style video content related to news and current affairs topics
  • Advanced organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working in a team setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to work well with a diverse group of individuals
